A serene and welcoming facility that blends seamlessly into the neighborhood – As the on-site nursery school for Kurashiki Central Hospital, the building was reconstructed in response to the aging and limited capacity of the former facility. We placed great importance on preserving the orange-tiled streetscape, long cherished by the local community, for future generations, and aimed for an exterior that harmonizes with the surrounding facilities, such as the hospital, nursing school, and preventive medicine plaza. Low eaves and horizontal lines, combined with the soft tones of the orange roof tiles, create a calm and composed appearance.

The JIC Jing'An Center is an urban regeneration project that integrates mixed-use functions (offices, retail, and residential) and is situated adjacent to the Nanjing West Road commercial area in Shanghai's Jing'An District. There, traditional streetscapes coexist alongside large-scale business hubs. The Center comprises a 180-meter-tall super-high-rise tower. Preserved and revitalized historic buildings are retained and incorporated at the lower level across the site. The project focuses on preserving historical context while integrating modern functions, presenting a model that transcends the dichotomy of "preservation vs. development." Shanghai was once home to dense clusters of traditional communal housing known as 'Lilong', where people used the alleyways between buildings as communal living spaces. This project adopts the concept of a 'three-dimensional Lilong', extending its richness and vibrancy in a vertical fashion. Centered on a three-dimensional circulation route linking the preserved low-rise buildings to the sky gardens and the lower and middle tower section lounges, the design draws the city's bustle to the upper floors. By seamlessly connecting open spaces that encourage diverse user interactions, the proposal presents a new model for urban regeneration: a next-generation landmark that passes the city's memories on to the future.

SUBARU is a pioneer of technologies and systems known to everyone today, and its unique manufacturing approach and obsessive attention to detail have cultivated a loyal fan base. However, recent increases in workloads have led to organizational and operational "silos," creating challenges with respect to sharing tacit knowledge and fostering a more collaborative mindset. Additionally, designers had limited opportunities to interact with actual "things" or users, making it difficult to get external information and inspiration.

This condominium hotel is located in a prime location directly connected to the Niseko Hirafu ski slopes in Hokkaido, Japan. The architecture expresses the characteristics of Niseko and its landscape dotted with small-scale buildings, and the gabled roofs characteristic of Hokkaido's and the greater region's traditional landscape context, while also incorporating the features of "condominium-style development," where each unit has its own owner. By expressing these elements as a collection of gabled roofs, the design achieves both economic efficiency and rationality while preserving the landscape of Niseko. The hotel offers a variety of unique experiences, including guest rooms that blend seamlessly with the landscape, a lobby that frames the natural beauty of Niseko, and an open-air bath with views of Mt. Yōtei. This is an architecture that can only be found in this location.

A stepped, sloped roof floats in the city, enclosing a comfortable workplace - This project is a new Tokyo branch office for Ishida, a long-established manufacturer of scales headquartered in Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan. The site is surrounded by high-rise condominiums, a national highway, and an expressway, but the road to the east is an important local street that connects the Shin-Itabashi subway station and JR Itabashi station, constantly crowded with people day and night. The east side of the building was considered an interface with the city, where the activity inside would subtly spill out, adding liveliness to the cityscape. At the foot of the building, the focus was to create a community promenade by improving the quality of the street space.

Takatsuki Arts Theatre: Creating Public Architecture Integrated with a Park - Creating a Forest of Arts and Culture Clad in Osaka's Trees - When the design process began in the spring of 2015, the site visit highlighted a land nurtured over time, where history and nature are intertwined. On the former grounds of Takatsuki Castle, where historical elements coexist with park greenery, we sought to create a theater that would seamlessly integrate and resonate with the town as a natural extension of the landscape. Inspired by the Hokusetsu mountains to the north of Takatsuki—which have long overseen and nurtured the growth of the town—the aim was to infuse this venue with the enduring strength of the land, using timber from the Hokusetsu mountain range. The intention was to recall the charm of the castle town and the natural beauty of Takatsuki's forests through a theater adorned with wooden exteriors.

Ginsen Nishi Shimbashi Building, an Office Building with Sweeping Wood-clad Eaves - This project involves a relatively compact tenant building situated in the heart of Tokyo. Facing an intersection, the site is located directly above a subway station at the end of a series of large-scale developments stretching from Otemachi to Hibiya Street. It offers a panoramic view of the high rises standing along the inner moat beyond Hibiya Park.
