The Ilirija swimming pool with its 25-meter outdoor pool, designed by Stanko Bloudek in 1929, was dilapidated and no longer met sporting requirements. The listed entrance building was retained. In 1995, the new capital city of Ljubljana decided to build an Olympic 50-meter pool with additional infrastructure. Unlike in many cities, the new Športni Park Ilirija was built in the city center, a sustainable decision that significantly reduces traffic and celebrates the national importance of sport.

Instead of a land-intensive expansion of the BORA sites in Niederndorf, LORENZATELIERS convinced our client with compact densification of the already developed areas near the banks of the Inn. This keeps land use low and optimizes operational processes between the two existing buildings. With up to 20m long connecting bridges to the existing AT I/II buildings, the new AT III building forms a “company campus” with short distances. The lowering of the site level around the new building using two green “cut walls” and the preservation or replanting of the tree-lined along the Innstrasse also embed the building in a park-like environment.

The long, narrow structure slips flawlessly and seamlessly into the superb property lot on the south-facing flanks of the city of Innsbruck. The structure swelled and took on the form of a capital "C". In the verticals facing northwards, the house remains closed in; in the other dimensions of the compass, however, it opens without the slightest limits - its panorama and closeness to nature are breathtaking.

LORENZATELIERS, with its urban concept, was the unanimously chosen winner for the EU-wide competition for the new buildings of the Faculty of Medicine in Linz. The special appeal of this project lies in the chance to create a part of the inner city including the General Hospital and the University.
