Playa Guiones is one of those rare places where nature still leads. World-class surf, lush tropical climate, and a deeply held commitment to conservation have shaped not just the environment, but the culture around it. The rhythm here is set by nature. Sendero Villas begins from that premise.

Mocha evokes the raw, monolithic grandeur of ancient quarries and the sculpted cave dwellings of the dwarves of Moria. Dominated by massive, stratified columns and overhanging volumetric forms, the design creates an immersive spatial experience that blurs the boundaries between structure and enclosure. The space is dominated by colossal, seemingly hewn volumes that emerge as if sculpted directly from the earth, their textured surfaces bearing the stratigraphic language of geological time.

Vernacular architecture whispers the wisdom of the ages, harmonizing and embracing its materials’ warmth. Bodega is a product of a seamlessly hewn vernacular and bohemian aesthetic. The design of the restaurant yearns for timelessness and emphasizes the use of a natural material palette comprising stone, wood, bamboo, and brick. Bodega’s interior decor is eclectic and whimsical, featuring distinctive sculptural art, lighting fixtures, and furniture. The volume opens into a double-height atrium with a parametric bamboo lighting installation dropping down from the ceiling, thus harnessing the beauty of scale and distorting the perception of a cuboidal shell. The ceiling installation is primarily a lighting fixture reimagined as a vernacular bamboo chandelier.

Baba's restaurant draws its inspiration from the architecture styles of rural havelis and houses of Punjab. The idea is to create an upcycled space with a traditional material pallette from around the context. The entrance alley is a longitudinal monolithic axis created using mud plaster/phuska and depicts the bazaar streetscape using different volumes, elements and layers. Masons and artisans were brought in from the neighbouring villages to create the phuska mixture and apply it on the walls/surfaces.

Teahouse is a project located in Playa Guiones de Nosara, just 200 meters from the Pacific Ocean. Being in front of the sea is already a challenge in terms of materials and their maintenance, especially in the Costa Rican tropics of the intense sun or extreme rains, especially due to the speed with which the materials begin to disintegrate and this is exactly what the client devised for his home: “a house that is truly itself in ten years and not today”, that is, Patina.
