Dune House / KLG Architects

Within the topography of Betty’s Bay, between mountain and ocean, sits the Dune House. The natural ecology of this locale is sensitive, both to disturbances that have occurred over the past few decades through indiscriminate building practices and through the windswept local climate. This was the datum upon which this house grew, and the resultant decision was made right from the beginning to create a building with two defining moments.

Located between Hottentots Holland Mountain Range and the Atlantic Ocean, House Lowe sits elegantly in its surrounding landscape. It is this location and the site’s climatic conditions which ultimately shape and inform the building’s design. This is illustrated through a series of frames, which continuously connect the user to magnificent ocean and mountain views around the site.

!KHWA TTU San Heritage Centre / KLG Architects

The Museum is the last phase of the rural !Khwa ttu precinct dedicated to the San culture and heritage. It displays the San ‘way of life’, not like a traditional Museum, but with the building conceived as an organic landscape with an emphasis on sustainable and ethical design. The undulating structure is embedded within the landscape along a granite ridge overlooking vistas towards the Atlantic Ocean, close to Yzerfontein on the West Coast.
