To leave old conventions behind, take new architectural paths, think circular, and design solutions as added value for people, neighborhood, and environment, was the goal of The Cradle's integral planning team right from the start. The office building sits confidently in the heterogeneous urban development constellation of the Düsseldorf Media Harbor and develops an independent architectural language. This language derives from the synergy of the three main pillars of the design - the integral facade, the timber hybrid construction, and the realization of the Cradle to Cradle concept.

Over nearly half a century, buildings such as Shanghai Indoor Stadium (1973), Shanghai Swimming Center (1983), Shanghai Stadium, and East Asia Tower (1997) have been successively constructed to host top-level sports events over the years. They reflect significant memories of the sports development in Shanghai and even China, becoming an undeniable landmark of Shanghai’s sports culture. The vision of the project is to transform this area into a new, open, and vibrant urban space.

The highly sustainable campus was designed in a collaboration between UNStudio and German architecture firm HPP Architects and was realized by HPP Architects. The main goal of the design for the campus is to foster interaction and inspire creativity by providing an inspirational and attractive work environment for today’s talent. The 60-meter high building offers approx. 27,000 m2 of light-flooded, contemporary office space with approx. 1,200 workplaces. In addition, the interior, which spans 16 stories, houses inspiring communication and experience areas, while lively atria form the communicative backbone of the building. The overall vision for this vertical campus is one of transparency and an open gesture toward the surrounding neighbourhood.

Shanghai SVW Technical Center designed by HPP is officially open in August, pioneering the development of Anting International Automobile City in Jiading New Town into a global automobile manufacturing area. In 2018, HPP won the competition to design SVW Technical Center, one of the most significant projects in Anting International Automobile City. To match the image of SVW as one of the leading automobile companies in China, HPP uses the design concept of “Enterprise Gate” for SVW Technical Center. The architecture is comprised of two towers, connecting each other at the top and sitting on the south and north sides respectively. One side of each tower is rotated to maximize the view, embodying a sense of uniqueness to the shape of this office building.

The Hochschule Ruhr West - University of Applied Sciences in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany, in short the HRW, is part of a nationwide development of new universities. With a total of eight buildings and about 62,000 m² of GFA, the university has the dimensions of an autonomous district: four institute buildings, a canteen, a lecture hall and a library as well as a multi-storey car park have been built on the former railway site in the Broich district. The HRW functions not only as a new educational institution, but also as an important component of the urban development concept for the entire university surroundings. For this reason, the various campus buildings reflect the heights and volumes of the surrounding development and the campus itself deliberately opens up towards the quarter and to the adjacent buildings.

More than 80 years after it was founded by Helmut Hentrich, the company is currently managed by the fourth generation of architects. Some of the practices most well-known completed projects include the Dreischeibenhaus in Düsseldorf, the refurbishment of Leipzig’s Central Station and the Düsseldorf Tonhalle. Football-related projects have been a significant part of HPP’s design portfolio since completion of the “AufSchalke” multi-purpose arena. Subsequent projects include the Volkswagen Arena in Wolfsburg, the modernisation and extension of the BayArena in Leverkusen, the Baltic Arena in Danzig (a joint project with RKW) and the extension of the Franken Stadium in Nuremberg. The Steigerwald Stadium in Erfurt is currently undergoing conversion works, to turn it into a multi-purpose arena and congress centre without interrupting operations.
