The atelier occupies an existing space from another time and a different, anonymous, and slightly temporary economy of space. Rather than erasing this condition, the project works from it. A landscape architecture studio moves in, bringing its own set of concerns. The intervention is light and precise, a place where office work and vegetation can coexist.

How do immigrant workers relate to the families they work for? And in what ways are they shaped by this relationship? What does it mean to leave one's own home to care for the homes of others? And, on another scale, how does a country position itself toward the immigrants it welcomes? These questions frame the project. The stage becomes a place where private relationships and broader social structures intersect for a moment.

A large apartment in the city center. The original layout, highly inefficient and deeply segregated, was quickly erased, leaving behind only a few columns, plumbing shafts, and the peculiar outline of the perimeter. Within such an irregular boundary, any conventional orthogonal organization would be inadequate and a missed opportunity. The project therefore adopts a different strategy: a fluid, deliberately fragmented space whose boundaries are often ambiguous.

One among many standard stands at the book fair, a 3-by-3-metre footprint tasked with holding little more than shelves and a counter. the budget, predictably, was limited. within this almost generic brief, the project accepts its condition as an installation, but refuses its expected neutrality. it works instead with what is already there: leftover metal profiles of different sections, repainted in a deliberately fresh, almost excessive palette.

Within a defined footprint, an unexpected figure arises. The conventional sloped roof of the suburban house is inverted—one side curved, the other straight—producing a peculiar silhouette that disrupts the monotonous suburbia. The volume resembles an exploded box sitting on a translucent plinth.

The geometry of a narrow house is settled within a few lines. The intervention happens both in plan projection and in section. Curved walls are intersected with sinuous ceiling resulting in a space that is not static. In the evening, multiple folds and creases create a bizarre game of light and shadow.

House of Countless Windows / fala

The house has more levels and windows than a typical house in similar circumstances normally would. From an outside perspective, the house is both much bigger and much smaller than what would be expected. The rigid rhythm of small openings meets an ordered interior, where living spaces unfold left and right from the central staircase. Inside, a system of split levels is disguised between the slab thicknesses that disappear between the windows. Within the outer perimeter, none of the walls remain opaque; instead, a sequence of transversal glass brick walls on every level divides the spaces while still allowing a blurry glimpse from one to the next. On the top floor, the main spaces find themselves nestled under a vaulted ceiling—the only exception within the otherwise strict system.

The empty plot is small, limited and somewhat sad. The same could be said about the regulations applicable. The entire volume of the building is predefined—a slightly skewed box of four levels with a setback at the top. In an arrogant move, the project tries to be ambitious, overly complex and joyful.

A small house refuses to be banal. three levels play slightly different geometrical games. its spaces are assembled out of small gestures: sloping ceilings, curved and staggered walls, episodic double heights, and lofty chimneys. The ground floor accommodates the main living space open to the garden, concealing the circulation and secondary spaces behind a subtle wall. The middle level is organized around a central hallway from which a spiral staircase takes one to the attic. The house is a collection of episodes and compelling fragments.

An oversized house is barely a house. the very long narrow plot used to accommodate shabby offices and a spacious warehouse. a fearless client aimed at transforming this clutter into a home. a soon-to-be living room could easily have a dozen cars parked in there.

A corner suburban plot for a one level suburban house. A misshapen parcel dictated a few offsets and alignments, a typical array of bedrooms suggested a grid of sorts, a split of private and public was to be ensured. Following that, the roof is tilted, the perimeter wall is curved, the main division is broken—the house is played out within three gestures. Secondary spaces find their ways behind the stepped line, producing a series of exceptions, while a laundry room jumps out of its perimeter and becomes a tower.

House for Three Generations / fala

The house stands in a corner plot of a small Portuguese village; it is meant to house three generations of the same family. Each generation is assigned a private space with a different shape; the given shapes are apparently arbitrary yet extremely precise. The communal living area is the negative of the private spaces and presents an unorthodox form. The relationship between private and public programs induces an almost obscene domestic environment (in the theatrical sense of the word).

The maximum buildable volume was found to be a distorted box, two stories high. Refusing the fragmentation prevalent in the surroundings, the five houses pretend to be one. An object in tension between the collective and the private – a plural wedding cake.
