The Circularity Park Contains a Robotically. constructed retaining wall and a terraced landscape and is accessible to the public on the outskirts of Zurich in Oberglatt, Switzerland. It was conceptualized and built over a one-year period in 2021 and is the demonstrator of pivotal research in autonomous construction, robotics, and architecture conducted within the National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) Digital Fabrication at ETH Zurich. It is built on the campus of Eberhard AG, a local leader in sustainable construction and recycling for the building industry, who additionally supported the project with materials and construction innovations. The two ongoing research projects behind the robotic stone wall and the robotic landscape at the ETH Zurich investigate the design, control, and computational tools needed to enable autonomous robotic construction processes directly on the construction site, using as-found building materials and local soil. Additionally, a team at Gramazio Kohler Research, ETH Zurich implemented its digital concrete Eggshell technology for the robotic production of the park’s benches.

Semiramis is an architectural installation designed with artificial intelligence that was constructed in 2022 at the entrance of a new Tech Cluster Zug, Switzerland. As a herald for the increasingly interwoven collaboration between machines and humans, it aims to go beyond usual urban programs and it will rise as a vertical urban habitat reserved for plants and small local animals. By dwelling between the artificial and the natural, Semiramis has been established through a manifold of synergies and research projects in the fields of interactive computational design, machine learning, and digital fabrication. On a formal level, the structure is 22.5 meters in height without vegetation and is composed of five amorphous wooden pods sustained by 8 thin steel pillars.

As part of the 18th Venice Architecture Biennale 2023, the German Pavilion set up a reuse laboratory: focusing on care, repair, and maintenance, leftover materials from over 40 national pavilions of the 2022 Venice Art Biennale were carefully collected and stored while housing a workshop where those materials could be reworked and prepared for new projects. Under the title Maintenance 1:1, several universities were invited for one week each to develop and implement projects using the available materials that would directly benefit the local community.

Designing and building with reclaimed structural components. The most sustainable construction materials are those we already have. Reusing what already exists is at the heart of circular construction and a fundamental element of more sustainable architecture. The two-week design & build workshop „Ephemeral Permanence 1:1“, part of the 5th International Conference on Structures and Architecture 2022 in Aalborg, Denmark, explored the reuse of construction components as novel material and social practice. Strictly adhering to the principles of availability-based design, the participants sought a design that reflected the architectural and technical potential of reuse exploring the resulting spaces and surprising material perceptions. Additionally, to use reclaimed materials, the pavilion was designed and constructed in such a way that the parts can be taken apart and reused elsewhere.

The Canopy was conceived as a unified lightweight spatial installation within a gravel oven building located in Attisholz, Switzerland. The aim of the installation is to create a setting within the existing space to accommodate the 3-day temporary events organised for the fib Symposium on Conceptual Design of Structures, including symposium, exhibition, and Apéro. Such activities request a regular stage area for presentations and discussions, as well as a small exhibition space for models and panels.

The sanctuary is managed by the Ministry of Culture, through the Museum of Pachacámac, an institution that both manages the site as a educational/cultural experience for visitors and as an on-going archaeological site. In 2015 a new complex of buildings by Llosa Cortegana Arquitectos was completed to house the museum and its on-going archaeological work.
