We intended to create a bold atmosphere that great ‘emptiness’ such as sky, ocean, beach, and desert can bring about. In ordinary residential quarters, the architecture exists as if it comes from ‘the other world.’ This house has extraordinary power, just as mausoleums can.

Concrete Square Tube House / EASTERN Design Office

This house is located in a residential area in Kyoto City, Japan. It is not a historical district, rather modern houses, old wooden houses and middle size apartment houses are lined up side by side. 500 meter mountain range opens to the north and west side and cityscape faces to the south and east side. Therefor it has a nice view from the 3rd floor. This architecture is designed with concrete square tubes piled up in two lines up to four steps. The section of many square tube is the start of this design.

Hotel Ninja Black / EASTERN Design Office

This architecture is about “shadow”. It’s a hotel named “Ninja Black”.The site is located in the city center of Kyoto, just west of the Kyoto Imperial Palace, in an area populated with houses, small shops, apartment buildings, and hotels. We planned a small hotel of five floors with 21 rooms, on a plot of land typical in Kyoto, nine meters wide by 35 meters deep.

This tower is lucid.The visibility of this tower differs in accordance with the very motion of the atmosphere and every change of sky and light. No doubt this tower forgets that it is a tower. Building such a lucid tower in the middle of a big square, which is covered just by stones, can be referred to build a “void” in an empty space.

The site is located in a manufacturing area in Youkaichi City where there are many big factories in this town. In this residencial and industrial area, many immigrants from South America live here among the local people. It is also a popular drinking area where many bars and restaurants for such are scattered and there is a highway interchange near the town. The shape of the lot is a sharp triangle which is unusual for building a house.

The house stands along a narrow street in a crowded town, is designed as a key itself on the façade of this house. This project is named Keyhole House because of the keyhole shape located on the facade of the entrance to the house. Mortar with sumi ink is applied to the exterior walls, and simple color coding is used with red and purple as accent colors.

This building is a design room for a Japanese sneaker brand as well as a residential house. The site is in Takarazuka-city of Hyogo Prfecture. It is located in an exclusive residential district that commands an entire view of the Osaka Plain. The architecture is built on the slope of a hill with an elevation of 330 meters. The level difference of the site is 8 meters.

This house does not look like a house. The shape of the house traces the boundary of the village. The village consists of six houses in all. The shape of the village could be done by making it by stone wall in old times. The project site is located on the north edge of the village that is in the prominent place, and makes the face of the village.
