The Sculpted Sanctuary is a 10,000 sq ft private residence in Surat, conceived as an inward-looking sanctuary shaped by sculpted volumes, material restraint, and spatial calm. The primary challenge was addressing the inherently generous scale of the house while ensuring the interiors remained grounded, composed, and deeply inhabitable rather than overtly grand.

Nestled in the outskirts of Surat, the aptly christened Courtyard House is a 920 square-metre farmhouse, set on the northeast corner of an expansive site away from the urban chaos. The house is envisioned as a sanctuary for the clients' family, who sought a tranquil spot for slow living—a place to embrace nature and the rhythms of shared family life.

“Something different, yet simple” is a common client demand when an architect is approached for designing a house. Bull’s eye is what “Frammed Earth House” can be called. A customary Gujarati family of 6 wanted “a new house” in place of their old one when D’well stepped in. The driving force behind the 3950 Sq. Ft design was to create the right balance of the traditional and the modern. This can be vividly reflected in the techniques used, the materials as well as the essences of the old residence which have been delicately retained keeping in mind the sentiments and disposition of the owners who have a modern outlook and yet, are deeply grounded.
