Located in Santa Margalida, a small town in the north of Mallorca, the project proposes a building with 10 social housing units and 10 multipurpose spaces, constructed using local and/or low environmental impact materials. The exterior structure is built with marés sandstone from local quarries, resulting in a robust and durable construction that ensures the building's integration into its surroundings. The interior is resolved through a horizontal structure of prefabricated timber panels and a vertical structure of load-bearing walls made of locally sourced brick, facilitating the project's economic feasibility.

The project takes advantage of the peri-urban condition of the land and the 18 m height difference between the streets to divide the building and provide the three new volumes with galleries, introducing green space between them to improve their views, sun exposure, and cross ventilation. To reduce earth movements in a terrain with several rocky layers, the project proposes an upper building with a 4.20 m cantilever that minimizes the foundations.

The building is conceived as a shallow and continuous perimeter of floor patio that creates a central space in the form of a collective and bioclimatic atrium, which becomes a space for interaction between the building's inhabitants and, at the same time, an energy-efficient mechanism for the entire complex.

The ICTA-ICP building, located in the UAB Campus (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona), is a research centre in environmental sciences and palaeontology. In accordance with the research fields of the building users, they chose, from the beginning, a building prepared to give an ambitious response to the challenges of sustainability. The building, an isolated volume of five floors of 40x40m2 and two basements, contains the following program: on the ground floor the hall, bar, classrooms, meeting rooms and the administration area; the next 3 floors hold the offices and laboratories; on the roof there are vegetable patches together with the resting areas. The semi basement holds the parking and the engine rooms while the basement contains the warehouses and other laboratories.

A few months ago we published Student Housing in Sant Cugat del Vallès, a project by dataAE + HARQUITECTES, originally completed two years ago. The architects have kindly shared updated images of the project, which show how vegetation has become integrated into the façade of the building and in the courtyard. In addition, they sent Polaroid images—taken by the architects themselves—that demonstrate how the spaces have become appropriated and occupied by the students. The new dwelling house for university students is located in the same block as the Vallès Architecture School. The project proposed intends to keep its balance among the existing buildings, outside areas and the new dwelling house, which is formed from two parallel to street blocks layed out over two floors and separated by a central atrium.
