OFICINA DO BACALHAU is located in an existing building and is a space dedicated to the sale of codfish and products derived from it, raw or prepared. It comprises a bar, a “barra” and a terrace on the lower floor and a restaurant on the upper floor.

Vila Venus Sol Apartment / COM/O atelier

Vila Venus Sol is a house located in the area of Caniço de Baixo on Madeira island. Being a renovation whose original project from the 1970s did not have characteristics of particular interest and whose construction was of inferior quality, the option was a total intervention through a “tabula rasa” operation. Thus, the entire interior was demolished, the outer envelope was consolidated and its original volume restored in order to take advantage of the high ceiling provided by the existing sloping roof.

Located in Alto de São João cemetery in Lisbon, CASA DO PESSOAL has housed for several decades the crematorium workers’ changing rooms and a workshop for maintaining small elements of the cemetery. The existing building was in a terrible state of conservation and the spaces did not have the best conditions for their users. It was interesting for us to understand how to design a building to serve the daily life of living human beings that work and deal every day with death. Inspired by both spaces’ atmosphere and overlooking the river Tagus, this new space provides an escape for the cemetery workers' hard work daily life and death environment. It is a building for life within death.
