The WildSumaco Biological Station is located on the outskirts of the community of Pacto Sumaco, at the foot of the Sumaco volcano and the first core zone of Sumaco Napo Galeras National Park, at the point where the Andean slope meets the humid breath of the high Amazon. It is one of the most biodiverse territories in Ecuador, and therefore in the world, a place where the forest does not act as a backdrop but as matter, climate, sound, shadow and measure. Building here demands listening before imposing, taking the context as a whole as a starting point rather than an obstacle.

In 1998, the Kichwa Añangu community, located in Yasuni National Park, decided to transition from agriculture and hunting to ecotourism. This transition allowed the community to improve their quality of life while preserving their traditional activities and protecting the unique biodiversity of their territory.

Casa Magnolia is an alternative response to the common housing enclave. It seeks to understand it from the perspective of a series of spaces that are inhabited by a family, rather than from the perspective of an architectural element. Implanted in a suburban context full of nature and away from the urban environment, it’s a symbolic volumetric composition that represents each space of the house as a part, with its own specific characteristics, that relates to the environment and to the whole.
