The B:Hive concept has been conceived by Smales Farm as the first step in the transformation of a twentieth-century office park to a twenty-first-century engaged urban hub; and as such, this is a new model of office building – it is actually the antithesis of “office building” in that its’ genesis is to be a “place” for flexible, collaborative and community-engaged work attracting start-ups, small companies, and individuals. There are currently 100 individual companies in B:Hive.

Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Primary School is a new K-6 school for 420 students in North Strathfield. The design is a realisation of the school’s vision of creating spaces that invite imagination, innovation and support independent learning and student wellbeing. The project reuses a rundown 1970s three-storey former Telstra training centre that was a typical institutional example of brutalist concrete architecture of its time.

ASB North Wharf is an international benchmark in sustainable building that provides a head office for ASB Bank with a workplace that places staff wellbeing at the forefront.The seven-storey office block consists of two buildings joined by a glazed multi-level walkway over a central public lane. The lane facilitates pedestrian connectivity and a new interconnected public/private space.

Energex Headquarters is the first major commercial building in Newstead Riverpark, the centrepiece precinct of Newstead-Teneriffe which is Queensland’s largest urban renewal project. Riverpark was originally masterplanned by Cox Rayner for Brisbane City Council and we subsequently planned FKP’s half-portion including for the Energex building.

The Braggs is the new transdisciplinary research Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing (IPAS) at the University of Adelaide. The facility completes the newly developed science and research precinct on the North Terrace campus, housing both research, and undergraduate laboratories, and a 420 seat lecture theatre.

BVN were commissioned in 2004 by the Zoological Parks Board of New South Wales to design and document the new upper entrance, carpark and lower entrance for Taronga Park Zoo. The project was one of a series of major projects progressively being planned and implemented in accordance with the masterplan for Taronga Zoo. The masterplan provides a framework for the Zoo’s renovation, refurbishment and redevelopment over a 12 year period.

When BVN won the 2011 Sulman Architecture Award at the Australian Institute of Architects Awards last Friday, it became the first architecture practice to win six Sulman awards since the award was first given in 1932. It is 21 years since BVN received their first Sulman award, this latest award was given for the Youth Mental Health Building at the Brain and Mind Research Institute (BMRI) in Camperdown, Sydney.

Bryden House is located on a dramatic elevated site with spectacular mountain views. It is designed to provide both a hermetic retreat and to exploit its northern aspect and prospect in the northern part of Queensland's Sunshine Coast Hinterland in Witta, Australia. The house is approached through a dense sub-tropical rainforest which opens to a small clearing where the house is located. The client, a single woman with a passion for books and a significant art collection requested something relatively modest in ambition and scale.
