The story of this residence begins even before the design process: we assisted the clients in acquiring a plot of land that, due to its steep topography, was affordably priced within the family's budget. However, the lot possessed essential attributes—accessibility, a privileged relationship with the natural landscape, and proximity to the family's daily urban routine—making the land purchase plus construction equation both viable and strategic.

SPACE as EDUCATOR: THE ROLE OF THE PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT IN PEDAGOGICAL PRACTICE - Vila Ninho School is a non-profit social initiative located in the Rio das Velhas River Basin, in the Cerrado region of Minas Gerais, within protected environmental areas. Its goal is to offer free, quality education to children in situations of social vulnerability, promoting family strengthening and community development. Founded in 2017, the school operates based on four pillars: educating children, strengthening families, transforming communities and multiplying efficient organizations.

Casa Fundamental is a kindergarten and elementary school. It was conceived to be a space for "teaching and learning, essentially for socializing, educational debate, academic rigor, pedagogical experimentation, more careful and kind relationships", as the founders-educators put it. The school's architectural project was developed simultaneously with the search for innovative educational proposals that consider space as an active element of the teaching and learning process, such as Loris Malaguzzi and the Reggio Emilia network, Herman Hertzberger and Montessori schools, AltSchool and researcher Doris Kowaltowski.
