Located in the middle of the countryside, in a private nature reserve at 3500 meters above sea level, Casa Carupa is a high mountain refuge that adapts to the needs of living in a tropical high mountain climate, also known as sub-paramo, because it is an intermediate point between the paramo and the high Andean forest, whose temperatures suddenly fluctuate between 0 and 21 degrees C in the same day.

El Tintal Library is the result of reusing a former disused waste transfer plant and transforming the 5-hectare site into a park along Avenida Ciudad de Cali with 6th Street. The rescued building from ruin was a 25-meter-wide by 72-meter-long industrial warehouse with a total area of 3,600 m², distributed over two floors of considerable height. Built with a sturdy concrete structure and large spans, it was adaptable to new use, enhancing its robust and industrial appearance.

The project contemplates the development of a building and a square that aims to articulate and integrate the Jorge Tadeo Lozano University with the center of Bogotá, revitalizing and converting what was once a deteriorated residential and industrial suburb into an open and public campus. The building results from overlapping a volume of 47 meters in width and depth with another volume of 40 meters in width and depth, creating a covered perimeter walkway on the first floor that extends along the sidewalks of the surrounding streets. With a total height of 30 meters, the building consists of 4 large floors, with clear heights ranging from 3.4 to 6.1 meters.

The Architecture Building is the central block of the University's Campus and the last piece of the Spatial and Land-use Master Plan that Daniel Bermúdez designed for the Universidad de los Andes which first piece was the Alberto Lleras building, winner of the Architectural Design award of the XIII Colombian Biennial of Architecture in 1992. Throughout the design process for Bloque C of the Universidad de Los Andes, Bermúdez Arquitectos has pursued the concept of a “building that educates”. There are many things that a building can teach, the problem is that the information normally remains invisible to the students.

ÁGORA-BOGOTÁ will not just be like any convention centre used by sporadic visitors who have little contact with the city, but aims to ascend to the category of a public building infused into all citizens’ imagination. Therefore, all efforts have been concentrated on meeting collective as well as specialized demands. First and foremost, it offers an image which represents the aspirations of a society in transformation and that resembles an environmental sensitivity which inscribes the building in today’s concerns. The specialized demands focus on practical aspects such as circulation systems, easy and comprehensible; an invisible but hierarchical and interconnected distribution of all the internal services that embodies the logistics’ scheme of the building; and a concept of flexibility that accepts the programming of very diverse formats. To this end, the project has adopted two innovative solutions: first, articulating the logistic scheme on the basis of four large vertical circulation and services cores, one in each corner, to facilitate and accommodate the most varied programs; and, second, dispensing with the conventional auditorium’s inclined floors and fixed seating in order to visualize ÁGORA-BOGOTÁ as a place of encounters and activities as diverse as anything and everything the imagination of its events organizers is capable of generating.
