Towards the 90s, there is in Argentina an alternative to residential buildings in protected areas known as ìgated neighborhoodsî, with the intention to provide answers to the issues related to insecurity. This phenomenon proliferated as an unfortunate mechanism of city growth, emphasized by the lack of corresponding regulations and generating a critical urban development of new gated areas, whose formal limits are within the existing urban landscape and leading -in most of the cases- to situations of ill-solved urban situations in the adjoined spaces.

The project is located in Barrio Pichincha neighborhood, located in the first beltway next to the downtown of Rosario, Argentina. The neighborhood has a long history of nightlife and leisure time as a result of its closeness to Rosario Central railway station. With the passing of time, this characteristic started to diminish, giving rise to a neighborhood which is the typical Rosario middle-class neighborhood, with low houses and scarce traffic.

The assignment for this project takes place in Fisherton, a residential borough in the western suburbs of Rosario city, its origin dates from the late 19th century, as a consequence of the development of railway infrastructure that connected the central area of Argentina to the western regions. Initially conceived as a villa for the British hierarchical staff in charge of the railway company, this led to the appearance of constructions and a strong stylistic trend according to English Architecture around that time. Large brick-exposed freestanding houses, shaped from several volumes and gabled roofs, surrounded by land extensions of prominent gardens and thick groves of trees.

The commission is framed within the Programa de Crédito Argentino del Bicentenario (PRO.CRE.AR) housing credit program, for those families who do not have their own plot of land and are willing to have the family's only residence. The project is located in Granadero Baigorria town, province of Santa Fe, Argentina. It sits on state land which used to belong to the National Railway System. It is an urban development of 3.3 hectares (81.5448 acres of land), bounded by the railway on one of its sides, and by an unconsolidated urban fabric on the other side, and framed by heavily tree-covered areas in the rest of the sides. The proposal considers the solution to one of the two sectors into which the piece of land is divided, and it offers buildings with ground plus 2 floors; ground plus 3 floors, and ground plus 7 floors; with a total of 105 houses and 8 business premises.
