Service Stations of Changning Outer-Ring Ecological Park Belt extends 100m from the west side of the Outer-Ring Expressway to the east side of the Outer-Ring Western River. It spans from the northern point at the Suzhou Creek to the southern connection with Hongqiao Avenue. The park belt boasts a total green-way length of approximately 6.25 kilometers. The park was transformed from The protection forest of the Outer-Ring Greenbelt, which was initially built in 1995. We integrate the refurbishment and updating of village houses built by villagers themselves during the 1970s to 1980s, identified in the investigation as having served as maintenance gang houses and flood control warehouses, with the functions of service stations. This adaptive and context-specific approach, which uncovers the latent spatial potential, demonstrates respect for the historical value of the Outer-Ring Greenbelt and minimizes disruption to the built environment. It effectively addresses the principles of ecological sustainability.

The Yaoshuilong (Chemical Lane) Peninsula across the river from Putuo Park was once one of the famous shanty towns where industrial workers lived in early Shanghai. Putuo Park, which was completed and opened in early 1954, is the first urban park built in Putuo District after the founding of the People's Republic of China. This elevated passage goes crosses over Dongchang Ferry Terminal and borders the flourishing Lujiazui CBD area. Dongchang Road used to be the most prosperous commercial area in Pudong. The Ferry Terminal there once was the only place that must be passed for people in Pudong to get into the Shanghai center area. With the changing times, Dongchang Ferry Terminal continues to be the busiest one in Pudong Area. There is huge traffic pressure in this Terminal since it carries tens of millions of passengers every year and becomes a starting station for multiple bus lines.

The Northwest Visitor Centre is one of the three visitor centers in the park. It is located the southeast inside the No.2 entrance, with the main road on the east and a small river to the north. The location is the former site of Xu Qin Village Committee, a traditional U-shaped compound built in the 1990s with a double-pitch roof and red tiles. It is a brick-concrete structure building with a concrete cornice and attic made of prefabricated concrete board. There is a two-story building in the north wing, a single-story building in the west, south, and east wing, with a quite open area in the east of the courtyard.

Located at the easternmost point of Chongming Island, at the mouth of the Yangtze River, Dongtan Wetland is a sort of estuary tidal flat wetland. This wetland sits in the middle of the “East Asia - Australia” route which is known as one of the eight migration routes for birds of the world. As a very important migration corridor for waterfowl in the Asian-Pacific region, Dongtan Wetland also becomes one of the most significant gathering places and habitats for wild birds. In the 1990s, an invasive plant spartina alterniflora was introduced to reinforce the tidal flat, which then result in the ecological deterioration of the wetland. To deal with the issue, Shanghai Chongming Dongtan National Nature Reserve started ecological control on spartina alterniflora and environment optimization of bird habitats in 2013. The whole project was completed in 2019. As a supporting facility of this project, the Research and Education Center was built as an important platform of scientific research monitoring, bird banding, law enforcement of management and protection, science education. Besides, it serves for raising both awareness and display of ecological and environmental protection as well as promote worldwide cooperation and exchange.

In the Project on Public Space Connection of both Banks of Huangpu River, 22 River View Service Stations have been constructed in the 22 km long riverside public space of the East Bank of Huangpu River. These stations have been widely praised in everyday use and visit, which proves that as new urban infrastructure, the public service stations play a crucial role in improving urban public space quality and participation of citizens. For better public service, the Municipality of Pudong New Area put forward the idea of building an additional River View Service Kiosk in about one kilometer spacing between every two service stations. In other words, there will be a service station or kiosk every 500 meters in the riverside of the East Bank of Huangpu River. Based on such an idea, the Municipality decided to build No.2 kiosk, No.3 kiosk, and No.4 kiosk as three experimental kiosks between No.2 and No.5 River View Service Station.

The New Bund School, which combines nine-year system primary and secondary schools with kindergarten, is located in Riverside International Community in the southwest of Shanghai New Bund International Business District, its northeastern corner is separated by a river with the central area of the New Bund and its western and northern sides are connected with communities; the school itself is a good place where one can overlook the Huangpu River. As a key development area in the post-Expo era, the New Bund area has become the second commercial carrier to supplement the functions of Lujiazui Central Business District. The planning structure of the whole community is an efficient, convenient and pleasant small neighborhood model. Although the school plot is large, the plot ratio is close to 1.5, which will certainly make it a high-density campus. Therefore, the design of the New Bund School needs to effectively respond to the urban public environment on a macro-scale, while on the micro-scale, it needs to form a campus environment with efficient spatial organization and convenient communication based on the demand for horizontal and vertical spatial compounding. The efficient and interesting public communication space which is squeezed out in the functional compounding is just the most critical perceptual point in the spatial experience of New Bund School, which also forms the functional architecture support and core design concept of the entire campus.

As a small conference and reception facility, “Three Rooms in a Roof Garden” is a part of the roof landscape that was designed for a financial technology enterprise located in its headquarters office building in a technology park. The whole garden is distributed on the roofs of three floors with different heights, and the roof of this “Three Rooms” is connected to the executive office area on the north side. In this project, we had the opportunity to create a new landscape architecture integrating with the garden.

Confrontation and adaptation
The Suzhou technology and science town adopts a highly efficient model where the land is subdivided into a grid of various natures with similar urban scales. Our proposal here takes advantage of the existing constraints and leverages the maximum value from the natural surroundings - Confronting both the tight city grid and the grand nature nearby, one side of the site is edged by the lush nature such as canals, wetlands and mountains. The opposite edge of the site is facing a highly artificial environment filled with high density apartment towers.

Design Strategies
Facing adaptability requirements of emerging industry space and high-density development model determined by the plan, as well as the context of the regional spatial cultural heritage on the non-characteristic sites, we hope to create a positive office environment with a spatial sense of belonging and cultural identity. Our basic strategy is to introduce a different R&D space combination model and be coupled with a multi-level three-dimensional courtyard organization to create a unique semi-public space for every entity settled in the block and then to promote exchange and sharing for future use in a variety of ways. Getting inspiration from the traditional garden culture of virtual-real complementation and varying sceneries with changing view-points, we regard the courtyard as the core organization space to improve the spatial flexibility and enthusiasm, and to create the landscape charm of garden culture on Yangtze Delta in such high density place, providing the industrial innovation space with spirit of regional culture. The three kinds of blocks with spatial prototyping are the "Wrinkled Peaks and Hidden Attics" for small R&D units, the "Elevated Courtyards" and the "Enclosure Courtyards with Duplex Units” for medium R&D units.
