How would a more than 100-year-old Pingtung Military Village that went under Japanese rule and the former Nationalist government welcome a newsstand that has disappeared in the daily streets? For a context that integrates newspapers, coffee, and outdoor space, we proposed a field experiment of "walls."

The AB House is a double-height unit located on the fifth floor of an apartment in Pingtung City, our first house as architectural designers, the two of us and a baby. The unit was bought when the apartment was still under construction. We had the opportunity to alter the original 4-bedroom layout to better appreciate the natural light and ventilation the unit is gifted with.

The F.Forest Office / Atelier Boter

The F. Forest Office is located in the fishing village of Qifong in Linbian, south of Pingtung, where 98% of the population is composed of retired elders. Started by a young Linbian-er, the F.Forest Team aims to enliven the old village by organizing local tours and events to attract more incoming visitors and understanding of the local village.

When the owners of Changan Noodle wanted to expand their traditional noodle making business to a noodle bar that serves cooked noodles, what we insisted to apply to the space of the noodle bar are the natural physical conditions in which they sun dry their noodles and the easy-going nature of the traditional Taiwanese street noodle stalls. Pingtung, the very south of Taiwan, is blessed with plenty of sunshine all year long.

The Second Floor / Atelier Boter
