The initial impression of this contemporary residence is one of striking visual interplay, where bold architectural gestures redefine conventional aesthetics. A diagonally laid brick veil, its textured surface meticulously arranged to capture the shifting light throughout the day, becomes a dynamic façade element, casting ever-changing shadows that animate the exterior. This seemingly organic yet highly calculated composition stands in deliberate contrast to a vibrant yellow metal box that thrusts outward from the structure, its smooth, industrial finish starkly juxtaposed against the warm, earthy roughness of the brick. This interplay of materials, textures, and geometries is not merely incidental; it is a defining characteristic of the house, lending it a distinctive identity within its suburban setting while engaging in a dialogue with the surrounding urban fabric.

Designing a home for a close friend is indeed a unique and challenging experience, as it blends personal connection with professional creativity. It's akin to pouring your heart and soul into a project because you share a deep understanding of the person's preferences and desires. When Vysakh approached us with his vision for his dream home, it felt as though we were embarking on a shared journey to craft a space that would encapsulate his aspirations and our design philosophy.

Subtle house. As the name suggests the house remains as subtle in its surroundings and creates an alluring experience for the inhabitants through the minimal free-flowing spaces. The fundamental need of the client resulted in a house deeply rooted in unsophisticated appearance and purpose of functionality wholly neglecting the extravagant forms.

The Hidden House. Let these words paint a picture of a secretive abode shielded from plain sight, nothing could be farther from the truth. For this is “a house that does not try to blend in; it wants to stand out from the rest, grab attention and take in those glances from the street,” declare architects Aslam Karadan and Sham Salim of eponymous Kozhikode-based practice Aslam.Sham Architects. “It is unapologetically unique with its form and intends to capture the intrigue of the passers-by—just like the client wanted it to.” The ‘hidden’ part of the moniker, they explain, comes from the home’s disguised scale: a three-level home that creates the illusion of being a smaller, two-Storey structure.
