The site was literally a gap between a typical detached house and an apartment, with only the width of a parking space, located in the suburbs of the Tokyo metropolitan area. The 2.5-meter-wide single-family house consists of a storage in the middle, and the floors adjacent to it are shifted by half a floor height.

A renovation of an old timber row house into a fragrance and botanical shop located on a busy shōtengai, a local market street, in Hatagaya, Tokyo. The building was originally a greengrocer, with two open sides facing the corner.

The seemingly odd title, Warehouse Villa, arose from an unusual request received from an owner of a restaurant business. He was looking for a warehouse to store furniture and cooking appliances that he inherited from his family business. At the same time, he was looking forward to using the warehouse, making it preferably a bit bigger than necessary, as a vacation house for his family and friends.

CELL Gym / ARII IRIE ARCHITECTS

The number of fitness gyms are rapidly increasing over the last few years. Unlike the normal casual workout place, the programmatic concept of this gym is a professional personal training center that approaches training from the cellular level, hence its name. Therefore the gym provides not only physical training but also nutritional counseling, hydrogen gas inhalation, and blood sampling equipment. Thus, it was necessary to create a space with a sense of seriousness, where training would solidly contribute to a result.

Warehouse in Ageo / Arii Irie Architects

Located in a suburban context along a highway connecting Tokyo and Gunma, the project is a warehouse/office for a trading company that deals with machinery parts. A simple timber construction gable shaped roof with a cantilevering truss for the platform was chosen as a logical and economical solution for the organization of space.

Nagasawa Coffee is a coffee roaster located in Morioka, a city in the Tohoku region in northeastern Japan. The owners decided to move their shop to a larger space to fit in their new 1960s vintage roaster. Their vision of the new shop was an open workshop space.

The house is located in Hamamatsu, a city on the southern coast of Central Japan, known for its warm climate. The house is a detached extension of an existing house built in 1983. Our aim was to create a whole, old and new altogether rather than emphasizing the contrast between the two. Linear volumes stretching in the east-west direction, spread over the site leaving spaces in between, which are the terraces and gardens. The group of roofs relate to that of the existing house, creating a sense of continuation.
