OnLand is a retail space centered around folk crafts and everyday objects. In this Shanghai project, we continue a spatial approach first explored in Hangzhou—starting from the idea of a workshop rather than a shop window. Instead of focusing on how things are displayed, we paid more attention to how objects are used, touched, and moved around.

Eight years after its founding, amass undertook a renovation of its own workspace. The project was not driven by a need for expansion, but by a reconsideration of how the studio works: when a space must continuously adapt to new projects, materials, and modes of collaboration, are the fixed and irreversible elements of conventional fit-outs still necessary?

Senpop / amass

Senpop is a retail brand that began with socks and has expanded into accessories centered around clothing and textiles. This project reinterprets the processes of production and distribution, transforming the store into a hybrid space between factory, warehouse, and retail.

Spring Patio / amass

Located within the renovated commercial complex Temple Lane in Chengdu, Spring Patio is a Yunnan restaurant and bar designed by amass. The project explores how new spatial elements can grow lightly beneath the preserved structural framework of an existing building. The design strategy focuses on retaining and revealing the original structure. Exposed brick, concrete and structural elements remain visible, while the interior intervention is conceived as a light layer—almost like a sketch drawn over the existing architecture. Contemporary functions are inserted with restraint, and readily available industrial materials are widely used to establish a dialogue between new and existing elements.
