The house is located in El Toscal, a forgotten neighborhood of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, declared a historic site but without a special urban plan. The project is about the rehabilitation of a house from 1912 that was in a state of ruin. The proposed rehabilitation is not intended to maintain an immutable image of the historic city, but a controlled modification that allows evolution without erasing the essence of the place. Considering the environmental values of the building, constituted by its volumetry, facade, and materiality; and from the reinterpretation of traditional architectures, the house has been projected with a house-patio scheme.

For years, since the closure for security reasons of the old Alcalá Church -finally demolished in 2011-, the residents of the Alcalá neighborhood have tried to favor the reconstruction of the lost temple which was under the invocation of the Virgin of Candelaria. This construction, for various reasons, has been frustrated, and, to the date, the image of the Virgin, a symbol of great devotion and tradition among the locals, was in a place that the City Council gave for worship.

For years, the neighbors of the fishermen village of El Pris had tried to promote the construction of a proper temple, under the vocation of the Virgen del Carmen (Our Lady of Mount Carmel) who is patroness of the sailors. Despite designating for it several different locations, this construction for various reasons was not possible. The image of the Virgin, for which the neighbors are strongly devoted, was stored in a warehouse belonging to a fishermen association, waiting to be placed in a sacred space.

It is requested to draft a project for a building destined for the Catholic worship, in the type of a chapel or an hermitage dedicated to Saint John the Baptist. The temple, according to the requirements of the property, allows a capacity of 40 people and requires a liturgical celebration to be held there weekly. Due to the current economic shortage, there is requested a building which will optimize the available limited resources.
