The Chaichanglong Dazhou Atelier & Its Surrounding Area Renovation in Shaoxing is a crucial component of the city's organic regeneration. The site features a collection of self-built structures from the time the notion of planning was not existed. The area have experienced timing, decaying, and fragmentation. These remnants, along with scattered bricks, form the site for SpActrum's architectural practice in Chaichanglong.

The project is located on a small island in Jianhu Lake, Keqiao, Shaoxing, and was originally built as a water intake facility for the local municipal waterworks. Constructed in 1992, the site originally contained six structures: a pump house, a substation, an administrative building, a staff dormitory, a water intake pier, and a cargo hoisting dock. In 2001, after a larger regional waterworks was completed, the site gradually fell into disuse. It remained abandoned until 2022, when it was reactivated within the context of local rural revitalization and cultural tourism development. After renovation, the original buildings were converted respectively into a bookstore, café, exhibition space, viewing pavilion, and boat dock, and were linked by a flat-roofed corridor system supported by slender steel columns, forming a new overall pattern of use. The once enclosed island, formerly dedicated to municipal maintenance and technical management, was thus transformed into a public place open to visitors.

The project site is located in the western mountainous area of Shangwang Village, Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, hidden among bamboo groves and farmlands. The building was originally constructed in the 1970s as a rural auditorium supporting Nixon's visit to China, carrying a distinct historical background. In 2022, Cycle&Cycle acquired the usage rights to the building and commissioned FANAF to carry out renovation and reconstruction. After completing the initial updates to the building and landscape, the project was temporarily put on hold due to overall environmental changes. It was not until 2025, when the brand decided to transform it into a rural stone‑kiln workshop, that the project was restarted, with the interior redesign entrusted to Tens Atelier.

Xiayanbei Village, situated on the eastern Zhejiang mountain ridge within the 19 Peaks Scenic Area, is becoming a popular destination for outdoor travel. The " Woven Passage to Cloudy Peaks " and " Sky Ring " are part of the initial phase of the scenic area's enhancement project. These installations aim to address typical challenges in rural development—such as limited funding, land scarcity, and homogeneity—while establishing a unique identity. The design strategy combines localization (grounded) and differentiation (elevated) to serve as both the scenic area's entrance and a landmark, capturing the village's cultural essence and natural beauty while introducing new daily experiences for villagers and visitors alike.

Over nearly 20 years of development, the existing campus is no longer able to meet the needs of disciplinary planning and subsequent development, which is the reason for the transformation and expansion. In addition, to promote the reform of "school-league cooperation", the southern triangular area has been newly expropriated to serve as the construction site for the comprehensive building of the recently established Shaoxing Performing Arts Group. Two units operate independently, but they hope for organic integration and resource sharing.

The project, situated on the eastern side of Zhongxing Avenue in Shaoxing City's Yuecheng District, serves as the entrance and exit for the G92 Hangzhou-Ningbo Expressway. As Shaoxing's busiest highway access point, this toll station handles a daily average of 20,000 to 30,000 vehicles, playing a pivotal role in connecting Shaoxing with the transportation networks of Hangzhou, Ningbo, and Shanghai. Beyond its functional role, the toll station embodies Shaoxing's rich history and forward-looking spirit. The primary goal of the toll station's renovation is to enhance its functionality and visual appeal. From a functional perspective, the existing 12 lanes could not adequately accommodate the substantial daily traffic volume and other requirements, necessitating the addition of a 13th lane. Furthermore, the station needed to adapt to the demands of the Asian Games and pandemic-related health inspections, leading to the inclusion of a central public security inspection and epidemic prevention facility.

We wanted to build a sports community driven by the stadium, which fully considers the multiple possibilities in the urban context and integrates them into urban life with a forward-looking perspective. At the same time, the concept of sharing and opening runs through the whole life cycle of the building, making it a link between culture and life, giving sports buildings unique public service value.-- Qian Xidong

The KINCANG Modern Pre-school in Shaoxing City, designed by LYCS Architecture on both exterior and interior, was officially completed and opened a few days ago. With a building area of 16,512 sqm, the architects designed the kindergarten according to the highest standards of Chinese kindergartens, including 18 classes. The project is located in a high-density old city, surrounded by residential areas of various ages. The Xiaoshao Canal flows quietly from the southeast of the site, reflecting the indifferent and peaceful life of the old city. The plot ratio of the project is as high as 1.3, making it a rare "high-density" kindergarten. The biggest challenge of this project is how to make a four-story kindergarten friendly and carry the vision of letting children get in touch with nature and release their imagination.

"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire."——Plutarch

Towards the north there is potentially a broad, open view, which is currently blocked by trees at eye height, so we hoped to create a rest station that visitors could ascend and enjoy the vista. We have imagined how bikers will arrive at the rest station after a long ride: first, they will enter a corridor, park their bikes at the entrance, and take a break. For those with more curiosity or finding the cycle track tedious, they can explore further into the corridor that spirals up to the top of the mountain, where they can enjoy a splendid vista of the surrounding mountains.

Shaoxing rice wine has a long history and its culture is deeply rooted in this soil. Dongpu Town, where the project is located, has been the center of the Shaoxing wine industry since ancient times, and is known as "Shaoxing old wine comes from Dongpu and you can smell the aroma of wine ten miles away from Dongpu ". The original site was a workshop for producing rice wine, now its red brick chimney is preserved. In the early stage of the project, it will be used as Shaoxing Yellow Rice Wine Exhibition and Experience Hall, including yellow rice wine cultural experience exhibition, bookstore, flower shop, and other functions. Later, it will be converted into a waterfront commercial building containing three restaurants and a bookstore.
