For decades, commercial space was primarily understood as the setting where a transaction took place. Today, faced with new forms of consumption and a distinct relationship between the physical and the digital, retail design is once again questioning what a space can offer beyond the product itself.

Before establishing itself as a recognized language, modern architecture took shape through progressive shifts in ideas, experimentation, and critical revisions that traversed diverse cultural and geographical contexts. Rather than a linear process of diffusion, it is a field in transformation, where references are appropriated, reinterpreted, and modified according to the specific conditions of each context.

The life of today's suburbs is interesting, complex, and diverse, but the suburban environments we are building are not. This is the central paradox of the contemporary Australian suburb: its social life has become more inventive, more culturally layered, and more economically dynamic, while its bult form remains stubbornly generic, repetitive, and under-serviced.

The contributions by architects to address these challenges go largely unnoticed and remain a marginalised practice, even within the mainstream profession.
Bahrain Pavilion / Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities
The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities invites individuals and collaborative teams to submit proposals to represent the National Pavilion of Bahrain at the 20th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, taking place from 8 May to 21 November 2027, with pre-opening on 6 and 7 May.
This exhibition takes as its point of departure the Greek word metaxi, referring to an in‑between condition—belonging to two realms at once. METAXIS explores what happens in between: between ideas, objects, spaces, and ways of seeing. It reflects on the dynamic state of being in the middle of things, a shifting tension or oscillation rather than a fixed condition. The exhibited projects move fluidly between perception and imagination, inside and outside, presence and absence, art and architecture. What does it mean to create public art and architecture in the 21st century?
On Spain's Costa Brava, the little-known brutalist housing block Les Feixes, in L'Estartit, becomes the main stage of "Caçador de Geometries" (Geometry Hunter), a short film produced by Simon and directed by filmmaker Matilda Vidal de Llobatera. Its premiere marks the launch of the sixth edition of the Living Places – Simon Architecture Prize, the only award that uses video to explain architecture from the perspective of those who inhabit it. Curated by Fundació Mies van der Rohe since 2016, it is now open and, coinciding with its tenth anniversary, it joins the program of Barcelona 2026, World Capital of Architecture.
