This year marks the sixtieth anniversary of the Casa en Jean Mermoz, a cornerstone of Chilean residential architecture, built on Jean Mermoz Street in the Las Condes district and demolished in 1992. Its architect, Fabio Cruz Prieto, pioneered a highly distinctive approach to conceiving, designing, and constructing architecture, in which every part and stage of the work was simultaneously autonomous and complementary.
CAU/RJ has extended the registration deadline for the CAU+Mulheres Awards. Female architects and urban planners now have until November 26 to submit their projects.
Now in its second edition, the CAU+Mulheres Award is one of the Council's initiatives to promote dialogue and increase the visibility of female architects and urban planners across their various fields of work. Internationally recognized for their weeHouse® concept, Alchemy has been proving since 1992 that even the smallest of dwellings can have a huge impact. weeHouse®, a term that Alchemy trademarked in 2002, was conceived as a modular-friendly design system that emphasizes quality before quantity, and has been recognized by an ethos of “less is more.” The Minnesota-based firm, led by Geoffrey Warner FAIA, designs the structures to be modern and sleek with particular attention to using expressive local materials with environmental sensitivity.
The Squam Lake House in New Hampshire, although not technically a weeHouse, was required to strictly respect the floor area and volume of a dilapidated cabin 15’ from the shore. Fabricated mostly offsite by Bensonwood using 18” thick, pre-glazed wall panels and white oak timber framing, the panels were erected in only 4 days.

Following several years of preparation, Taipei Fine Arts Museum announces the start of its two-phase expansion project titled Out of Bounds: TFAM Expansion. Construction on a new collections vault began in October of this year, and an open call for architectural proposals for another new museum building will be launched in January 2022. The Museum was completed in 1983 and together with the new collection storage area and a second building, it will gradually expand Taiwan's contemporary art vista.

The Institute of Architects of Brazil - Department of São Paulo (IABsp) opens a call for papers for the 13th edition of the International Architecture Biennale of São Paulo, with the purpose of bringing together proposals for the exhibition Produções Insurgentes (Insurgent Productions), which will take place in the city of São Paulo in May 21 to July 10, 2022.
The competition is a collaboration between RESOLVE Collective, the Royal Borough of Greenwich, and Historic England's High Streets Heritage Action Zone programme in Woolwich and invites both groups and individuals to apply, prioritising 'first-time designers' and collaborations with local residents. Applicants' physical designs will be installed across a variety of available locations between the town centre and the river, while digital designs will be exhibited on the competition website.

Archstorming is launching a new competition in partnership with the NGO Kakolum. We will travel to Casamance, a region in Senegal marked by an identity conflict that started more than 30 years ago and continues to this day. This region, located between Gambia and Guinea-Bissau, faces several challenges, one of which is the lack of classrooms for primary and secondary school children.
Brief: The challenge of the competition is to design a lodging center by repurposing steel grain bins in an innovative way.
Jianhu (Jian Lake) is the origin of local Yue civilization. It has witnessed the vitality and development of the city for thousands of years. Sitting at the junction between the Keqiao urban zone and Kuaiji Mountain landscape, it features a unique blended context of “mountain, lake, city and farmland”, and also a number of beautiful humanistic stories. Today, under Keqiao's development positioning—the "International Textile Capital", Jianhu is opening up and embracing creativity altogether.
