The project NDA (PLANTER) is located on top of a steep slope in "Yamate Bluff", Yokohama, Japan. This area offers panoramic views over the city and the Mount Fuji. In the vicinity there is a small but beautiful park that has many preserved houses and is popular among tourists.

This House is designed as a “set of wall”. When a wall is set up in a place, it divides the space, blocks the path, makes directionality and cuts off the view. But when the walls are many, there are a lot of connection and path of view as well as a lot of directions. This kind of space encourages us to decipher it and adapt ourselves to the environment actively.

The Japanese title “in kyo” is derived from a calm life apart from the active world for the rest of their days. Excessively ornamented mansions showing off surround the site in a rich green residential area. This modest house concealed its appearance in plant open to a neutral space such as a courtyard, a terrace, a garden, and the sidewalk between outdoor and indoor without steps.

Located in a 30 year old apartment complex, Nagi is a renovated living space for a young married couple and child. The construction consists of dismantling the existing spaces to leave only the skeletal frame. Creating a bare canvas, the spaces are then washed in 70% diluted white paint on the new oak floor, concrete ceilings and walls, and new built-in furniture.

The premises are located at a greenery area in Yokohama city surrounded by fields, parks and hills in the neighborhood. It has been planned in the open space such that places for children to stay are mixed into forest with rich natural environment.
