The most basic idea for creating the building figure of Sejong Art Center is to cut some surface off the land and elevate both ends from the ground level. Clipping both ends of the site and lifting them in opposite directions, we intended to open the two front facades toward the city and the park. This made both fronts provide at once two different orientations of views around the city.

First, Sejong Metropolitan Autonomous City is a newly developed city around Seoul area. We wanted to provide a place where people can escape from the cold city life to be able to reflect on themselves. We wanted to provide people the opportunity to clear out their tiring daily routine and to experience a time to face themselves through this place. The simple square metal mass exterior and site being located not too close to the living area display ‘refinement.’

Create a new core for 'happy city. ''Informal Core' is located at the end of the government building in Sejong City, and it provides open space to cities and people in a unique form. The end of the building, where the construction is located will soon serve as a 'core' of the local living zone used by the citizens of happy cities.

Designed by Samoo in collaboration with Kunwon & ABLine, the new cultural facility is designed to be fully integrated into the surrounding natures and exhibit historical records of Korea’s presidents. Based on the government’s masterplan to create a new administrative city approximately 130km south of Seoul, the Presidential Archive was developed as one of the most prominent infrastructure for the new Sejong city.
