A series of undulating tectonic structures set against an aspen grove near Wilson, Wyoming, this mountain home serves as a creative retreat for a California-based couple. The 35-acre property is set at the base of the Tetons and encompasses several ecosystems, with old-growth forests merging into stands of young pine and aspen trees before transitioning into rolling meadows. The homeowners, authors who also own and manage an independent record label out of Mill Valley, California, were looking for a nature-oriented outpost in Wyoming in which to pursue their writing practice.

Carney Logan Burke was tasked to design an entire compound for a young family relocating from the San Francisco Bay Area to Wilson, Wyoming. From siting and entry sequence to conceiving a full complement of primary and secondary structures — a 5,300-square-foot residence, guest house and gear barn with a pond, waterfall and landscaping — principals John Carney and Matt Thackray and head of the interiors team Jenn Mei worked closely with the clients to bring all aspects of the project to fruition.

Sulgrave Road apartments 008 & 009 are two new homes, located in Shepherds Bush, London, formed by extending and re-organising two Victorian Houses. The building from second floor to roof level was stripped back to its original brick skeleton to allow the re- configuration and additions to the rear elevation with a new level added at third floor. Apartment 009 creates a new home from the letiover void space in Victorian pitched roofs. Apartment 008 forms a new home by reorganising a lateral space across two Victorian houses.

The project was sited on a low lying wetland that demanded consideration due to a high water table. The solution to this problem was to elevate the house three feet above existing grade and to utilize an insulated slab on grade to avoid the probability of fostering mold growth in a crawl space. The Architectural water features we used to enhance the project while at the same time provided positive drainage.
