Located in the heart of a Lille business district developed around forty years ago, the Babel Community coliving residence is part of a broader process of urban and environmental regeneration. The project involves the transformation of a site formerly occupied by obsolete and energy-inefficient office buildings. In their place now stands a 304-room hospitality residence complemented by a wide range of services and shared amenities, conceived as a new living environment within an area historically dedicated to tertiary activities.

Forward-thinking education requires contemporary concepts, including renovation of university infrastructure, which the French ministry of education has provided extensive funding to expand. An important goal of these reforms is to rethink outdated learning concepts. Technical progress, as well as new methods of communication between teaching institutes (students and teaching bodies) and the public, begin to question the traditional form of scientific libraries. The new Learning Centre “Innovation” is part of a series of similar institutes tasked with stepping up to the new challenges and preparing for the future.

The new private hospital in Villeneuve d’Ascq (in northern France) is a response to the regional modernisation programme aiming to improve the quality of health care. The facility acts as a structuring element in synergy with the clinics already present around the city of Lille. The hospital provides multidisciplinary care for outpatients and patients requiring full hospitalisation. Its programme includes 225 beds and medical, surgical and obstetrics units as well as a medico-technical centre. It has a large 42-bed maternity unit, 10 operating theatres as well as radiotherapy, chemotherapy and nuclear medicine units.
