Casa La Puntilla is a family's second home located in Villarrica, Araucanía region, southern Chile. It is projected as a compact volume on two levels, to reduce the surface area on the ground and conserve as much as possible the native vegetation of the place. The volume responds to the typical shed typology that characterizes southern Chile. The intermediate spaces arise from setting backplanes on different faces useful for the north wind, winter rains, and strong summer sun. A single additional element is attached to the volume: the elongated roof that reaches perpendicular to the shed and serves as a gallery, parking lot, or covered patio as required.

To the east, the landscape overlaps with the mountain range and the Villarrica volcano, in its other three directions it seems to be an endless field.

Refugio Hachi is a project located in the rural area of the Villarrica commune in southern Chile. It is situated on a plot with abundant native forest and, with the aim of preserving the existing trees and making the most of the light and heat, it was decided to locate the project in the only available clearing. The client, a jeweler, wanted a refuge that not only served as her home, but also as a place to design and work. The design of this space had to meet the following requirements: thermal efficiency, comfort, spaciousness, illumination, and views of the native forest.

From this context arises the need to insert harmoniously into the landscape and make the contemporary quality of life compatible with the tradition of the countryside that surrounds us.

If the utility of a space is settled by the objects in it, then the quincho is a space with a barbecue and a table. In this quincho, the barbecue and the table are the prolongation of one onto the other, translated in a sculptural concrete-on-sight made object, which is the only element that shows the reason of the construction.

The project is located on the northern shore of Lake Villarrica, in southern Chile. The 8.000 sqm site has a moderate slope towards the lake and most of it is covered with native forest. Many of these trees are very large and have great natural value.

The close relationship established with the community Pinohuacho is given by requirements prior to this work in collaboration with the conversion of its territory devastated by deforestation of native forest and recent volcanic eruptions of the Villarrica volcano. This excessive logging and eruptions have become arable land and eroded soil acids, inert for sustainable living. The cultures of these lands have to be relocated to the highlands of the village in search of land less acidic and deforested cloths have been replanted with native forest by the villagers themselves.
