Located in the Historic Center of the City of Torres Vedras, the University Residences are a project required by the Torres Vedras City Council, aimed at promoting the rehabilitation and urban revitalization of that area. The intervention consists of the rehabilitation of three buildings predating 1951, which were vacant and in a high state of degradation. The project, divided into two cores, aims to equip the buildings with the necessary conditions for their new function, restoring dignified living conditions and safeguarding significant architectural features for their historical value.

What is it to be MAIS (plus) FITNESS? Understanding the charisma behind one existing brand is to comprehend that what defines it is the people. It is the will to belong to this “tribe” that makes the people to join and want to belong to this fitness community. From this concept comes the motto for this new gym in Torres Vedras, a middle size city in the West region of Portugal. Our main challenge was the creation of a spatial image identity for this and future MAIS FITNESS gyms.

The man whose head in fact exploded captured the meager and eager attention of local and regional sensationalist tabloids in the early eighties. He was an unbeknownst artist, until he alleged that he had been a minimalist, a conceptualist and a pop artist, all simultaneously, and before their due time. His wonderful and frightening story gained him a place in the history of alternative pop music around 1982. As the song that immortalized him went, “the scriptwriter would follow him around, the soap opera writer would follow him around, and use his jewels for t.v. prime time.”
