Located in the ancestral garden of the Vuong Dinh family in Thuy Bieu, just 5 kilometers from Hue City, Vuong Dinh Temple epitomizes the harmonious blending of tradition and modernity. The tranquil village, nestled along the Perfume River, is renowned for its iconic garden houses that embody Hue's architectural heritage. Within this poetic setting, the raw, monolithic concrete structure of the temple stands in respectful contrast, honoring the site's spirit while harmonizing with its natural surroundings.

From the initial idea of an abandoned factory, we dissembled the old structure and replaced it with a steel and concrete one, except for the front house whose concrete ceiling and old walls were left intact. The tin roof of the middle house was raised to give the feeling of "a factory". Big concrete pillars are used to divide up the space and big windows are to allow light and wind in. An indoor garden helps ease the heavy visual of concrete and steel.

The initial premise of this project is the desire to build a space to serve accommodation and promote local tourism. The basis for us to embark on this design is to reflect the life of this land through the solutions and spaces that form the Dehue building. The land is located on the main road of Thuy Bieu, an area famous for Hue garden houses. This place has a Thanh Tra grapefruit garden and fruit trees that are always surrounded by greenery all year round by typical hedgerows from Chinese tea plants.

“We hope to build a home where the two of us could spend the rest of our life happily and peacefully.” Said the owner of Labri to us at the beginning of this residential project. They are a couple at the age of above 55, the period when most Vietnamese people start to think of retirement. They owned a site area of 100 sqm, located at the end of a small alley within the citadel of Hue city, separated by one of nine ponds in the area, which is a perfect position for us to develop the idea we have in mind after listening to their suggestions.

Bêtania is a residence dedicated to social educative needs. A series of basic archetypal framework shape up the building in a very rational, simple and economical manner. Specific lengths are given to each section of the construction reducing distances to its neighbors as its best and implementing land use. At the center, significant common spaces are displayed: an open and a covered courtyard. Around those, exteriors passageways purposely distribute bedrooms for 78 female students. The residence also hosts a low budget restaurant and a library.

The building is designed with a simple shape including a ramp that goes around a box shaped space. The nuns can walk slowly on that long ramp that leads to a stepping garden on the roof.
