The Music Center Tel Aviv-Jaffa is a re-designed Jewish-Arab cultural hub that encourages coexistence through musical education. Situated in the heart of Groningen Garden, it serves diverse young communities in the southern neighborhoods of Tel Aviv-Jaffa. Nestled among eucalyptus trees and constructed in stages, this “garden building” consists of the old wing (1965) — a modernist concrete and silicate structure housing administrative offices, rehearsal halls, and classrooms — and the new wing (1992), which features a lobby, a 385-seat concert hall, and backstage facilities. Originally established as the “Orchestra House,” the building employed a shell and volume approach, with each space defined as a separate acoustic volume. Though it is not listed for municipal preservation, the renovation project seeks to uncover the building’s historical layers and original geometry.

The design concept emphasizes minimalism, restraint, and clarity, resulting in a visually cohesive and efficient space. A limited palette of materials was carefully selected, including stainless steel, concrete, and wood, each employed in varying proportions and arrangements throughout the different areas of the factory.

Text by Guy Re Moor. Lessin Tower development is situated in the central heart of Tel Aviv within walking distance to the Mediterranean beaches & sea, the new tower belt district, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art & Hayarkon Park, west, east, south & north respectively. Located in a predominantly residential neighborhood, the tower development also encompasses within its vicinity the light restoration of Beit Lessin, a 3 story mid-century structure, exemplifying the cultural ideals and architectural aesthetics of the time. Influenced by global & local themes alike, those include the simplicity of volumes, the brut honesty of concrete and stucco, and the rhythmic manipulation of form ingrained with brise soleil sensibilities responding to climatic conditions such as wind and sun. Building on those themes, Lessin Tower contrasts and reinvents its own.

Instead of concealing the Mechanical and Electrical systems of the apartment, the decision was to expose them and make them an integral part of the design. A concrete envelope, which is rich in texture, was chosen for the ceiling and feature wall, and careful attention was given to the display of the client's eclectic collections, throughout the different spaces of the project.

It has a sun-filled patio at its heart, enclosed by all the public areas of the house. The prominent pitched roof extends from the patio upwards to create spacious double-height interior spaces. Designed for a family of five, the house is relatively small, just shy of 180 sqm. The ground floor is planned to take up less than a third of the lot in order to maximize the yards surrounding the house and to create an intimate yet spacious home.

Bar Orion Architects, a leading international architecture firm based in Israel and established by Tal and Gidi Bar Orian in 1990, today officially unveils its latest project – Mapu 5 – a square-shaped, new-build residential property located on the corner of Mapu and Yehoash Streets in the heart of Tel Aviv’s White City, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its extensive collection of Bauhaus and Eclectic Architecture-style buildings. Unusual both in size and shape (1.3 dumans) three times larger than a typical lot in this area and some 200 meters (600 feet) from Tel Aviv’s Mediterranean seaside promenade – Bar Orion was commissioned to ideate and plan a new building in a neglected space in one of Tel Aviv’s most desirable areas. The disuse of the plot presented a fascinating opportunity to manifest a building that pays homage to the unique character of Tel Aviv’s Middle Eastern-Mediterranean fabric, all-the-while creating a new and contemporary visual statement.
