The Nuu.Motel project was born out of a research instigated by the desire to make the original demand (a simple renovation of a « classic » motel from the 2000s) not just any interior renovation. Far from comprehending interior design as something « minor », the design strategy behind Rodapé_ architecture office’s practice roots from the understanding that it is not possible to do architecture without research, going further: architecture and language can be intertwined, creating a fertile field of pre-existence – being them material, tectonic, but also linguistic or imagery – and turning them essential. From then on, two main demands emerged for the conceptualisation of the project: understanding the place of the word "motel" in the common brazilian imaginary, and guiding the renovation so that it did not have an exorbitant price - customer restrictions.

This 160 square meters apartment had its original plan and coverings since the delivery of the construction company in the 1980s, it had never been renovated. The clients came to us because they were looking for an apartment with greater integration and connection between spaces, so that it valorized the spatial amplitude and had a more contemporary language with new materials, textures and finishes.

The Nuu.Motel project created a design methodology that initiated the Rodapé architecture office and is structured on the understanding that it is impossible to practice architecture without research. Research, in this specific project, aimed to identify common imaginaries of the motel space in Brazil to re-signify elements and propose new ones, with the goal of confronting sex as the main action of appropriating bodies in the created spaces - the suites. This sex should be light, fun, permissive, and still protected within four walls, preserving the anonymity that is so prevalent in the origins of Brazilian motels. The entire preliminary study took into account precisely what was preserved from this imaginary, what is re-signified from there, and what we would create anew.

Designed as an integral part of the so-called “Platina Axis,” the project aims to offer high-quality spaces for work, services, and leisure to the neighborhood and the East Zone as a whole, contributing to the reduction of long and exhausting commutes to historically centralized work hubs in the city. The Crona 665 building occupies a prime location at one of the main intersections of the Platina Axis, between Platina and Vilela Streets. Its neighbors include developments offering a wide range of services such as retail, dining, healthcare, leisure, and residences of various sizes. Located just 150 meters from Carrão Metro Station, with proximity to major access roads, train stations, bus corridors, and bike lanes, Crona 665 establishes direct connections between businesses and people.

Physical, emotional, social, cultural, corporeal, creative, intuitive, and spiritual aspects are as important as the rational intellect. Beyond the content of the disciplines, understanding the child's wishes and abilities are used to reframe and firm the child learning.
