A contemporary interpretation of Subiaco's archetypal character homes, Proclamation House provides an inner-city sanctuary for a multi-generational family. Set within a character retention area of Subiaco, Proclamation House responds to its local context while maximizing a compact building site to suit the needs of its occupants — a professional couple and a parent. The client's open brief called for an immersive, light-filled space with areas for the family to entertain, come together, and find respite, elevating their everyday living rituals.

The Australian city of Subiaco has recently proposed closing its primary football stadium, the Subiaco Oval, which follows the shutdown of two major public markets. In response, and in order to avoid the closure of another cultural center, MJA Studio has reimagined the former Subiaco Oval site as a mixed use complex centered on a man-made wave pool. Read more about MJA's proposal after the break.

The Hamersley Road Residence is the conversion of an early 1900’s Australian workers cottage to a practical, modern family residence. The external timberwork, moulded plaster, handmade tiles and flannel flower glass of the existing house give the home a distinct arts and crafts aesthetic. The house had been untouched for many years. As the new owners, and as an Architect and Interior Design team, we wished to provide a functional home for our family with flexibility for now and into the future. We also wished to respect and enhance the existing craftsmanship.
