Huachiao Vibrant Sports Park, located in Kunshan, Suzhou, opened in March 2024. Spanning 6,000 square meters along Greenbelt Avenue, its design draws inspiration from the flowing water sleeves of Kunqu opera, blending traditional Chinese culture with modern skateboarding. The park enhances both space and experience, making it a key cultural and sports hub for the community.

The Orchestra Park / SoBA

The Orchestra Park in Kunshan's Huaqiao Economic Development Zone covers 8,500 square meters between two high-density residential areas and along the confluence of two rivers. With mature camphor and dawn redwood trees and nearby wetlands, the project faced the challenge of integrating a skateboarding area, preserving the natural woodland, and adding essential amenities like restrooms. The design prioritizes ecosystem preservation, creating a functional, modern park for all age groups while providing a green, natural retreat. This project transforms an urban vacant lot into a vibrant recreational space that serves the public and is beloved by the community. We aim to create a livable green space that meets residents' diverse needs while providing a rich natural experience—a green oasis and social hub in the neighborhood.

Sky Castle Kindergarten / SoBA

Kunshan Huaqiao, a key area in the Yangtze River Delta, has quickly transformed into a modern district with a global outlook. The client aims to establish a standout architectural feature, the Sky Castle Kindergarten, to showcase the area's openness and diversity while enriching spaces for children's learning and play. Inspired by the expansive sky, our design features "cloud" shapes that create a unique "Sky Castle" for kids, providing a sense of shelter from the surrounding high-rises and potential future developments.

Lakeside Services and Urban Branding. The Jinji Lake area in Suzhou Industrial Park is the core area where the park aims to create a new urban center for the future. The waterfront public space around Jinji Lake serves as the primary area for public activities, integrating the existing visitor center and buildings to establish a lakeside pavilion service system based on a 15-minute walking radius. This system is an important window for showcasing the urban brand. Each pavilion includes light commercial spaces, rest areas, restrooms, and more, ensuring comprehensive service coverage of the lakeside space. There are 11 pavilions around Jinji Lake, 5 newly built and 6 renovated.

The Floating Courtyard - Underground Entrance Plaza Renovation / Deep Origin Lab

The Floating Courtyard is located in the Science and Technology City of Suzhou Huqiu District. This renovation of the entrance plaza of the underground parking lot is a significant part of the public space system of Fashion Waterfront Longfor Starry Street. Deep Origin Lab went through the complete process from design to construction of the project. The olive-shaped spatial form of the original sunken plaza determines the basic geometry and axial conditions for the place. While retaining openness, the design reshapes the interface landscape from bottom to top through two means of "Contexture" and "Patch", creating an experiential place from the gap, that further bridges the spatial relationship for the urban environment.

The project is located in Suzhou Science and Technology Town. To create an ecological art space on the city's waterfront and respond to the vision of community participation in the future, Deep Origin Lab built a unique landmark for the site. Pavilion Lucida is located on the waterfront, with its plan oriented east-west. The entrance is on the east side, and the open water where Longtan Port and Hudong Canal meet in tributary is on the west side.

Visitor Center of Kunshan Urban Ecological Forest Park / Atelier Archmixing

Kunshan Urban Ecological Forest Park is located northwest of Kunshan City, approximately 4 km from the city center, covering a total area of 3,150 m2. It is a city park open to the public freely. On the left side of the south entrance, along the river, there was originally a sales office with a site area of approximately 1,310 m2. To make good use of this land, the owner decided to build a new visitor center here. The new building will be used for comprehensive services, park and urban administration. It was also expected that the building could be integrated with the landscape. We have also noticed that there is a big green space to the north of the site, rather unattractive, so we decided to include this space in the design for visitors.

Renovation of the Former Residence of Zhang Taiyan by Tsing-Tien Making. A spatial container of Chinese classics and memories about Suzhou. "Renovation is not simply about blending into the old. Instead, it involves the fusion of the old and the new to imbue this long-standing house with a new language, from design to functionality and the experience it offers to visitors. We hope the story of Zhang Taiyan and his house does not stop in that specific period but continues, with the new memory and language, to carry forward." By Tsing-Tien Making. The enchanting city of Suzhou encapsulates the poetic beauty of the Southern Yangtze region. A stroll along the historic Jinfan Road in the city's old neighborhoods reveals numerous quaint and elegant old residences. Once the heart of Suzhou, this area, adorned with gray bricks and flat tiles, embodies the profound cultural heritage and charm of a place steeped in the arts of calligraphy and painting. Among these treasures stands the Zhang Garden, located at No.38 Jinfan Road, a valuable cultural landmark in this neighborhood. Constructed in 1932, this residence belonged to an eminent scholar of Chinese nationalism named Zhang Taiyan. In his late years, Zhang housed his collection, engaged in writing, received guests, and lived in this residence. In 2023, Gu Wu Xuan Bookstore took over its operation and entrusted Tsing-Tien Making to renovate this century-old mansion into a bookstore and a museum based on the scholar's former residence. In the same year, it officially opened to the public. The site comprises three mixed-style houses built during the Republican period (1911-1949), showcasing a harmonious blend of Chinese and Western architectural styles in the facades. The exterior features plain brick walls, Suzhou-style wooden lattice windows, Chinese-style pavilions, and Roman columns. The southern building, spanning nearly 600 square meters, is designated as the residence-based museum, while the two northern buildings, occupying approximately 880 square meters, constitute the main section of the bookstore.
