South Melbourne House is a bold addition to a humble Victorian terrace that balances the heritage and planning constraints of its tight site to create a warm and inviting family home. Raw materials contrast luxury finishes whilst double height volumes and large skylights create a sense of unexpected drama behind the small Victorian façade.

Designed by Wood Marsh Architecture, Piccolo House is a new headquarters and benchmark development by Piccolo. The collaborative relationship established between architect and developer represents their mutual respect and shared philosophies - quality, boldness and refinement. Emerging from its heritage legacy below, Piccolo House is spurred by its contex-tual considerations. Sheathed in an ordered monolith of off-form concrete, preci-sion cut-outs are subtly angled to reveal coloured reflective glass elements that reinterpret the autumnal tones of the brickwork in the neighbouring laneway. Akin to a block of stone being carved into, the mass references the lintel as a symbol of strength providing the structural framework for the building.

This project was a renovation and extension to a single fronted, double storey Victorian terrace house in South Melbourne. The existing house was long and narrow, and consisted of a series of dark, dilapidated rooms planned in a linear configuration. In addition, the site had numerous challenges, with limited access, 100‐year‐old two storey brick walls on both long boundaries and a site that sloped away to the rear.

Set in a rustic red-brick warehouse, REHAU’s Design Haus is not your ordinary showroom. Founded in Germany in 1948, REHAU is best known for their quality doors & windows and a vast range of interior finishes. Launching their first showroom in Melbourne, they provided us with a simple design statement; they were seeking to create a space where visitors felt like they were stepping into their own dream home – familiar, comfortable, lush, light-filled, and open.

Located on a prominent intersection in South Melbourne, this 29 level apartment building is the first completed project of the significant urban renewal precinct of Fishermans Bend. The site is bound by post-industrial landmarks, large scale infrastructure and the city centre to the north and fine grain 19th century residential fabric to the south.

This refurbishment of an existing double storey terrace house in South Melbourne opens up the entire ground floor and encloses an existing courtyard to create a communal multi- zoned family space that incorporates a lounge, quiet sitting room, and dining/kitchen areas. The family’s values of living and working together in shared spaces underpin this architectural design solution.
