In The Interpretation of Dreams, a book that offers insights into the relationship between dreams and the subconscious, Austrian psychologist Sigmund Freud discussed the concepts of "manifest dreams" and "latent dreams." Assuming the dreams we remember after we wake up are manifest dreams, the subconscious that acts as those dreams' original forms — or, in other words, our inner worlds — are latent dreams. Our true objects of desire always remain latent rather than being manifested. The space devoted to Insoil, a ceramics brand, passes through the domain of the latent. It visualizes invisible consciousnesses, such as the brand identity Insoil pursues or the desires of the two artists for a good life. "The trivial yet not insignificant," "The delicate yet firm," "The orderly yet not overly artificial," "The dim yet luminous,""The mundane yet unfamiliar."

This project was a renovation of a three-story mixed-use building. The first floor used to house an old hardware store, while the upper floors were residential. We renovated the first floor and basement into an art gallery and the upper floors into a single-family house. The site is in a quiet, old neighborhood full of similar buildings and was in between an old marketplace and a new art district for young artists. A handful of small art galleries were slowly emerging along the street of our site.

A transcendent space narrating the passage of time - The spatial design of the HongT Lounge began with our interpretation of the identity and narrative of the HongT brand from a transcendental perspective, hoping to return to nature. It is a venue where we instruct on investment techniques, with the belief that the worth of time is equivalent to the worth of money. Dealing with finances reveals the essence of human nature and behavior through the element of swiftness. Although people want to handle things quickly and get results, investing is about dealing with long periods of time. Therefore, the lounge conveys a sense of relaxation and comfort through the atmosphere of the space, not a sense of fast-paced time.

When I started having my own office space in Seoul, South Korea, the first place I began residing was Sungin-dong of Dongdaemun-gu, then through Hapjung-dong and reached Ha Jung-dong of Mapo-gu, having to move everyone for four years. There were several reasons for the moves. I had to find a more affordable place, share the office space with others and needed a bigger space as more people joined. These are common challenges that a typical office experiences. Then, we considered acquiring a space where we could reside stably as we realized the realities of our rent becoming more expensive than the interest we pay to the bank due to the lowered interest rate.

The changing residential landscape - Yeonhui-dong is a representative high-class residential area in Seoul. Currently, with the expansion of the commercial areas of Sinchon and Hongdae, lively commercial spaces are formed in calm residential areas, changing the existing atmosphere. The Y2 building is in a residential area formed on a hill off the main road. The area is an enclosed residential area surrounded by high walls and walls along the slope. However, the fact that the site is a corner of a slope was an advantage because the building could be recognized from the entrance of the alley. It was decided that if the building is actively incorporated with elements that can serve as a good face, it can have charm and attention that will attract people from the alleys.

The GIZI _Art Base is a single building tasked to house four different programs – a commercial space, a gallery, an office and a multi-family housing unit, each of which required a unique spatial definition appropriate to its needs and functions. While the ground floor commercial space demanded easy visual recognition and street access, the gallery, which on the other hand called for a more intimate and private setting for viewing and selling artwork, necessitated a more peripheral placement. The office space needed a calm atmosphere, and the individual residential units were asked to be both separately divided yet connected through a central courtyard. In order to accommodate the disparate and conflicting nature of these programs, each of the four was stacked vertically and unified into a singular mass.

As the traditional role between men and women become blurred in modern society, the privacy at home and the basic nature of spaces in the house is being changed. Even the privacy among family members that had been overlooked in the past patriarchal era with a large family is now the most basic thing to insure, especially among married couples. The economic independence of women through increased participation in society plays a role in this. As a result, the kitchen has turned into a café-like space with a large table out of its traditional function of producing the food. It is also a wine bar for the soon-to-be married couple to stop by after work.

Hongje-dong has a relatively large elderly population. In front of the existing houses, the elderly used to sit on the benches and spend some time together. The newly planned Hongje Community Center was intended to serve as a community space for these seniors, as well as a public facility for the local residents.

The ArchiWorkshop foundation building was built on Yeonhui-ro, which is parallel to Ansan in Seoul. Most of the area is made up of type-1 residential districts, making it a quiet and comfortable residential area. With the recent acceleration in development of the Yeonnam-dong area, movements are also taking place in Yeonhui-dong is to reflect neighborhood-like atmospheres. Places made of neighborhood shops, rather than franchises, such as handicraft shops, craft coffee shops, craft beer shops, and Saruga markets (a local market brand) are creating Yeonhui-dong’s culture of high quality and originality.
