Due to economic misfortunes, this building on the edge of Seinäjoki town centre never became Törnavä Manor’s exemplary educational cowshed as originally intended. In fact, the same misfortunes led to the development and growth of the surrounding municipality into an eventual city. The cowshed itself was eventually finished by the insurance company Kaleva, first turned into a broadcloth factory, and then finally closed off from the public by the Finnish Defence Forces.

The restaurant situates in a street corner with a fully open glass facade. It is located next to the former Civil Guard Building by Alvar Aalto from 1920s, what still has lots of influences by the works of architect Gunnar Asplund, but the longer views open towards the Alvar Aalto center of Seinäjoki with theater, city hall and government office building.

House H / a' House was built for the architect’s own family. The wooden building is situated in the traditional residential area of Kivistönmäki, close to the children’s schools and grandparents as well as the railway station. The narrowness of the plot and its wedged shape influenced the form of the house and its building location. The open views and orientation determined the fenestration and the passive sun screening. The materials were chosen to appreciate and accommodate the surroundings and satisfy our personal preferences.

The Periscope Tower is a giant wooden periscope structure that serves as an observation tower and engages the viewer in a dialogue with the landscape. With the help of a large mirror the Periscope Tower makes it possible for everyone to enjoy the views of the surrounding landscape. One can either climb up the stairs to enjoy the view over the lake and into the surrounding landscape from the viewing deck, or simply stay on the ground and get the view through the periscope mirror.

The civic centre of Seinäjoki is a uniform building complex designed by Alvar Aalto. The building complex showcases Aalto’s exquisite touch from the details of door handles to the scale of urban planning. The centre is a masterpiece of modern architecture and a highly valuable cultural environment. The library was completed as part of the civic centre in 1965. An example of Aalto’s famous series of library designs, it served well as the town’s main library for over four decades. With the expansion of the town and evolution of library activities, however, it was no longer able to meet today’s demands. As a solution, the town decided to co-locate a modern building with the current library, so that the resulting two buildings would merge into a single functional complex. An architectural competition was organised for its design in 2008, in which the winning entry was our proposal titled ”Apila” (”Clover”).
