Perhaps the space of fire is the first space: around it, bodies, time, and words are organized. The new design transforms the bonfire into a compass: a rose of winds materialized on the ground. There are twelve supports marking the directions, like a sundial that teaches time through the movement of light. A stage is oriented to the south, pointing directly to Pedra do Baú — a geographic landmark of the region and a constant reference in the landscape.

This project originated from the basic shape of a country house. A simple pavilion with a gabled roof. From there, we filled in this starting point through the lens of more contemporary and current architecture. The owners' desire was for a simple, beautiful, and extremely functional design, with a very streamlined architectural program:

Located near Pedra do Baú, the main tourist spot in the municipality of São Bento do Sapucaí, the chalet SBS was designed to function as a guesthouse. The house located on a top of a mountain, near the border between the state of São Paulo and Minas Gerais, with a wide view of the region. The construction was conceived as two volumes of equal dimensions that support a unique light roof, and which are crossed - and joined - by a balcony that extends towards the slope and the astonishing view, forming a viewpoint that extends to the horizon. One of the volumes houses a living room and kitchen, in addition to a laundry/technical area, which is accessed by a deck located at the back of the building. Theother one, a bedroom and a bathroom with two doors, for access both through the bedroom, and by the balcony, also serving people who eventually occupy the room.

At 1200 meters of altitude, in the Mantiqueira Mountains (Serra da Mantiqueira), a mountain range in Southeastern Brazil, the project proposes a conscious use of the local resources of the land and surroundings, to promote an experimental construction, sensitive to local knowledge and with a low impact on the environment. From this premise, the construction is basically made of wood and earth. Industrialized materials, in turn, were thought of to rationalize the work, ensuring the minimization of waste, adapting to the context of difficult access to the land and local climatic conditions.
