For a corner lot, the architectural approach adopted was an "L" shaped plan. The solution had clear objectives: to take advantage of the best solar orientations for the different areas of the house and to create a completely private internal garden for the lot.

The building, known as the former headquarters of the Correio do Povo newspaper, was built in 1939 and had its original function as a single-family residence with a commercial ground floor according to the standards of this context. It presents attributes representative of Art Deco, a visual arts and architectural movement prevalent in the contemporary period of the building's construction. This language suggests the geometrization and simplification of decorative elements and can be better identified in the facade facing the historic Avenida Rio Branco. In its original configuration, the facade suggests the division into Base, Body, and Crowning, following the compositional order very present in this language. The Base fully comprises the frontage of the land. Originally, this floor was organized as a commercial space, a garage, and access to the second floor. The following floors contemplated the domestic space.

The building is located in a rural area about 3km from the center of Estremoz/Alentejo. The landscaping and natural surroundings are extremely appealing and can provide very interesting moments of leisure and contemplation. This tourist unit is certainly a driving force in spreading all of Estremoz's regional, gastronomic and wine culture.

The plants of the floors are functional with large rooms that open outwards, ensuring maximum use of natural lighting and ventilation.

The house is located on land used for farming in the original house, with fruit trees planted in an area of 900 m2, where many of the existing trees are maintained, the construction does not alter the natural condition of the land, we work on a platform with a new level + -0.00, which, together with easing the construction, raises the view to the trees of the place.

The scheme aims at accommodating the different needs of two families on vacation. The single volume of one building is broken into smaller ones, different in height and size, placed freely but in relation to each other resulting into an ensemble. The ensemble is sited upon a solid stone and concrete platform at 80cm above a preserved agricultural field in immediate adjacency to the sea.
