The site hosting the project is located in St Nazaire (France). The plot is rectangular in shape, its small side aspecting the S. Bernhardt Lane and the large side aligned on the Broodcoorens boulevard. The north-west dividing line separates the land from the second part of block, which will later be urbanized, and also intended to accommodate a housing program.

In partnership with Le Grand Café Contemporary Art Centre in Saint-Nazaire, LiFE presents, from 3 June to 9 October, Neocodomousse, an exhibition by raumlaborberlin, a Berlin based network-collective of nine trained architects. Raumlaborberlin is a collective of nine architects, city planners and artists. Their name could translate as both space and laboratory: a neologism referencing to experimentation and empirical research, guided by a community manufacturing process.

Saint Nazaire railway station is the focal point of a public transport network for a sprawling town that is destined for further growth. The creation of a high-frequency bus route lead to the reworking of the roadways and parking areas for buses and coaches around the station as well as the development of the square in front of the station.

The theatre draws inspiration for its materials and style from its immediate surroundings. Its monolithic mineral bulk is borrowed from the giant bunker and its rough-hewed shape is borrowed from neighbouring utilitarian designs. Concrete is conferred sovereign status as a material. It is smooth in parts, chiselled in others. Here and there, it is adorned with a floral imprint pattern providing a classical link to the station and to romantic theatres.
