The Canopy was conceived as a unified lightweight spatial installation within a gravel oven building located in Attisholz, Switzerland. The aim of the installation is to create a setting within the existing space to accommodate the 3-day temporary events organised for the fib Symposium on Conceptual Design of Structures, including symposium, exhibition, and Apéro. Such activities request a regular stage area for presentations and discussions, as well as a small exhibition space for models and panels.

The plot on a sloping hillside in Kanton Solothurn is defined by two roads deriving from the south adjacent crossroad and a significant elevation of the terrain on the north side. The architecture explores the concept of creating a house within a house. With displacements in the outer monolith, various space was established outside as well as inside the building.

Located on a hillside in Kanton Solothurn the site is adjacent along the curved main road of the village. With the only access point being on the upper northwest side of the plot, it proved to be an anchor point for the main alignment of the house. The architecture and the given landscape respond to each other – ultimately forming a unity. The house was conceived as two blocks rotated relative to each other and pushed into the hillside. This organisation provided a clear routing upon entering the site and dictated the main orientation of the two blocks.
