This is a renovation of a room in an apartment house facing Chausuyama Park in Otsu City. With a frame frontage of over 8 meters, the unit has wider frontage proportions than typical apartment buildings these days. From the main openings, one can see the abundant greenery of Chausuyama Park in the near distance and the Omi Basin, centering on the water system that converges from Lake Biwa to the Seta River, in the far distance. And on the other side, there are two openings in the building. When I dismantled the building and visited the site, I felt a pleasant breeze that was blowing through the building toward the landscape.

Wani is located in the northern part of Otsu City, and is located between Lake Biwa and Mt. Hira. It is a suburban residential area where people live leisurely, but JR Kosei Line runs north and south and has good access to Kyoto and Osaka. We designed a small house on a hill in Wani. The owner is a dog lover and likes the outdoor activities, and his hobby is swimming with his dogs in Lake Biwa on weekends. The owner's request was to live with his dogs and to fully enjoy the scenery and atmosphere unique to Wani.

The construction takes place in a residential zone developed 30 years ago during the bubble period. Although this region used to be an idyllic countryside, following its development by a single developer to residential area as a city block, a rational subdivision into isolated houses surrounded by fences and distant from each other, have been applied to the zone. Additionally, as a result of a house builders' famous 80's and 90's marketing strategy in Japan using the symbol words “My Home” to reply to the increasing housing demand following the economical growth during the same period , these houses were provided a pitched roof.

This plan is for renovating a room in a mansion with the view of the lake Biwa. The husband is keen on furniture and the wife loves plants. They live together with two cats. They have a newborn baby now. At this opportunity to have a new member in the family, they want to move to a new place. This is the reason why this project started. The plan was contemplated based on the concept "Cat, Furniture, and Plants."
