The Anthropocene, i.e. the Age of Man, is the period in the history of the Earth that began when human activities had a significant and largely negative overall impact on the Earth’s ecosystem. As architects, we have a responsibility to reduce the impact of our activities on the environment. Ada Lovelace's secondary school was therefore designed with this in mind. It is a sustainable and environmentally friendly building. As the 1st exemplary clean energy school (BEPOS) with the NoWatt label and silver level BDM for Occitania, the building offers future users – students and teachers – an amenity that has been designed in total harmony with its environment.

The boarding house project is a continuation of Philippe Lamour high school: then its design takes into account the logical organization of the existing facilities and must ensure consistency and overall harmony. The area where the building fits, places the project as a figurehead of this big island, position both strategic and symbolic: the facilities plays a special role because it has to be the link between the exterior and the interior. Shared by several schools of Nîmes and physically attached to Philippe Lamour high school, its reception, conviviality and reference character must be emphasized. The precise location of the project reflects this link between public space and high school territory.

The originality of this project, for public transport in Nîmes (France), on two different, is its realisation in two interlocking parts, yet designed by two different teams. Under the shade structure, designed by the agency Gautier + Conquet, in charge of the urban project, Y.Architectes imagined three small buildings of different heights, on a total area of 290 square meters built. The challenge was to find a constructive system which can fit under the broad structure previously built and adapt facades to different program scenarios. On one site, the first building to the west, is composed of technical spaces and offices. The second one contains a restroom and bathrooms. The last one, is a bike parking. No more excuses for not using public transport!
