The New Taipei City Art Museum is situated on reclaimed land at the convergence of the Yingge River and Dahan River. The gently sloping site resembles an island within the flowing streams, offering captivating views of the majestic mountain and river landscapes. To the north lies Guilun Mountain, while to the south, the museum overlooks the Dahan River and Xueshan Range. Drawing inspiration from the region's rich history and culture, the design incorporates elements such as the dry riverbed, the quaint charm of old streets and brick buildings, and the swaying reeds, particularly abundant during the autumn and winter seasons, to create a modern and prospective architectural form, a "museum of modern and contemporary art among the reeds."

QUAN is located in Sanchongdingkan Industrial Zone, Taiwan. It is a typical street house commonly seen in Taiwan. It shares the same violent and unregulated architectural forms as the surrounding environment, such as iron cover and illegal construction. The building skin has experienced traces of use over time. After the site survey, we found that this area has a unique urban context and historical traces, which also triggers how we locate QUAN.

There is a 99-years-old abandoned Sanheyuan on the site and it will be demolished for a new residential project shortly. We were asked to design a temporary reception center before the construction of the new residential project. We decided to keep the Sanheyuan as part of the spatial design experiment for the reception center and also can be seen as a farewell exhibition for the 99-years-old house.

The building faces the streets of all directions fearlessly, forming the fragmental indoor layout. The residents often feel the inconvenience in using the space. We fill the fragmental areas with the service functions of the residence to create the complete and open public and private space. The design point of the open space is the layer presentation. The connection and openness of the living room, dining room, and kitchen will be felt when you enter the house from the balcony.

In the space of nearly 125 square meters and three meters high, the first to overcome is the over-low steel girder and main pipe. We adopted the concept of “deconstruction” to separate the steel girder and ceiling so that either can exert its function independently. The arc technique of the ceiling will elevate the space. The low point of the arc can be equipped with the solid facilities.
