Nanjing’s hot springs have long been famous in the Jiangnan region, with Tangshan Hot Spring and the Laoshan Hot Spring—where this project is located—being prime examples. This hot spring club is situated on a small slope in the southeastern corner of the Yanlord Phoenix Hill project at the northern foot of Laoshan. Surrounded by mountains, trees, water, and hot springs, the site turns its back on the city and escapes the hustle and bustle. Here, only green trees and rolling hills are visible, with no other buildings in sight. As the morning mist rises and birds begin to sing, the morning dew awaits the sun, creating a rare and tranquil scene of mountain living.

Modum Atelier Nanjing Office / Modum Atelier

The new office of Modum Atelir is located in the middle part of the rows of bungalows in National Leading Talents Pioneer Park, which used to be the General Bureau of Silver Dollar Minting in Jiangnan during the late Qing Dynasty. It is separated by a stone tunnel and adjacent to the Ming City Wall site. The original floor height of the interior was five meters, and the floor plan was evenly divided into two parts by a structural wall. The height of the floor and the insulation of the wall result in a passive energy-saving disadvantage of the house, and the structural wall in the center also brings difficulties in spatial integration. The townhouse where the studio is located is in a low-lying part of the park. In the summer, when rainfall is abundant, rainwater may back up into the house.

Li Eaves, a Flower and Plants Shop / Raw Architecure Studio

Li Eaves: The ancients built a pavilion shaped like a bamboo hat on a rural road every ten miles that shelter pedestrians from wind and rain, and shade from cold and hot. So "Li" reminds people of its function of providing shelter from rain and sun. Eave is the main architectural construction style for this design. "Li Eaves" was named by our friend Zhou Bo for this project. We have been invited by our friend Yuan Hua who has newly taken over a Flower and plant shop. The storefront left by the previous owner already possesses a certain visual quality. The main demand for a new storefront is to provide shade for the flowers and plants placed outside, protecting them from the intense direct sunlight in summer. At the same time, it is also hoped that a small corner for rest can be created under the enclosure wall next to the shop.

The design of the Xianlin School [1] is an exploration of the "general school". Although the system of general education (Общеобразовательная) [2] was introduced by the USSR (The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) as early as after the founding of the People's Republic of China, taking into account the national conditions at that time, the central government decentralized the management of educational undertakings, the primary and secondary schools in the region were invested by the localities. It was not until 1985 that compulsory education was transformed into a state-financed program; the following year, we officially entered the important stage of "nine-year compulsory education." As a result, for quite some time, school construction standards were based on the school architectural code atlases provided by the standard design offices or architectural institutes of individual provinces as a reference.

Arcade Project Public Cultural Space / MOU Architecture Studio

In 2022, mou architecture studio was invited to design the Arcade Project for its public cultural space in Nanjing. The Arcade Project takes its name from the unfinished writing project of the German scholar Benjamin. The Arcade is the physical space where 19th-century Parisian consumer culture was born, a shopping center in the form of a street market, narrow and winding, housing cafes, repair shops, salons, restaurants, theatres, etc. Benjamin marveled at these 'internal boulevards with glass roofs', where people no longer had to be exposed to the elements, the Arcade was like a city, a microcosm of the world, which is a vision that the Arcades Project cultural space aims to realize. It is hoped that through this renovation and design, the local community will be revitalized and the cultural life of the city community will be enhanced and connected.
