LL Inhouse is a collective housing project in the city of Montevideo. It is located in a central and prominent location in the Pocitos neighborhood, surrounded by services and close to urban mobility axes such as the Montevideo promenade - the most important public space in the city that unifies its entire coastline - but in an immediate environment of great tranquility that maintains the neighborhood scale, making it a very privileged point.

Pagola 3023 Apartments / Pablo Szames Arquitecto + AGVA studio

Located in a low-density area of the Pocitos neighborhood, city of Montevideo, the PAGOLA 3023 Building is located on a lot between party walls 8.6 meters wide and 34 meters deep. It has 15 units, 2 studio lofts and 13 one-bedroom units spread over 4 levels plus an upper level with a rooftop equipped with a solarium and barbecue spaces.

This project came as a particular assignment to the studio from the clients who presented us with the challenge of designing a house located in the heritage district of Carrasco in Montevideo to become their family's home as a permanent residence. Despite being dedicated to housing and prefabricated modular constructions, we are always open to new challenges, which is why this proposal that was out of the ordinary captivated us with the rigor of facing a world that we already knew but that we had not manipulated for a long time: traditional on-site construction.

Located in a central area of Montevideo, the Morelli residential building is located on a 10-meter wide and 46-meter deep site between party walls. Taking as a reference the R2B1 zoning of Buenos Aires - our neighboring city - to make the most of the characteristics of the land, the project is articulated in two blocks of 4 levels around a large central patio 11 meters long.

Intro
Throughout the history of humanity, the table has played a fundamental role in many aspects, acquiring a great cultural value and being the stage of infinite uses and activities. Many of the great events have been and will continue to be recorded around a table: The instructions of the year XIII were drafted and signed on the table of the general constituent assembly; republican democracy materializes at the polling stations, great stories of love and friends arise at a bar table; and the family gathers around the table on Sundays for lunch and sharing. The table with its historical genealogy, is no stranger to the different moments that have left important traces in the history of man; to reflect on the affective power of this object is to build spaces where different ways of living, being and being with others can be displayed.

Working, studying, celebrating events, watching shows, holding meetings, attending classes, are just some of the activities that took place in the home. The need for space became evident.

The project was conceived to solve the housing needs of 3 families of friends. Each one had to have 3 bedrooms and they all wanted a front yard and a back garden. Therefore, we chose to divide the plot into three equal parts along its longitudinal axis. The site is 10 meters wide, so the main challenge for the project was to develop the program through three triplexes of approximately 3 meters wide, and at the same time create a system of spatial relationships and architecturally valuable and pleasant routes.

The project involves the recycling of a standard house, with a structure in poor conditions, in the Cordón neighborhood of Montevideo. The building, originally a traditional courtyard house, is transformed into a small complex of three units. One of them is a two-room duplex unit facing the street while the other two are one-room flats looking at the central courtyard. The roof incorporates a pergola and is equipped with a barbecue and a tender. The aim of the project is to develop homes satisfying today's demands, but taking advantage of the existing elements of the old house.

The DNA of Murillo Housing originated in its implementation. The challenge of this project was to position five 200m2 duplex houses in a lot while imposing minimal interference with its existing wooded surroundings thus maximizing its harmony with nature. A major priority in this project was to keep majestic trees adjacent to each house. After additional studies on flow and natural illumination, we concluded that we could reach our objective by designing a cross shape plan accurately positioned in the terrain. This procedure resulted in an interesting rhythm where identical houses would have a distinct look from every viewpoint.

“We have been working on recycling and renovations for some time, and one of the things that animate us regarding these commissions is the act of creating a tension between the old and the new... The typologies of the standard houses or traditional "Patio House" of Montevideo, with high ceilings, load-bearing walls, vaults, joists, and small compartments do not usually adapt spatially to the demands of contemporary living. However, these houses do have heigh ceilings and materials of great aesthetic value. Combining the old and imperfect with the new, fine and delicate is what it is all about... Finding a tectonic balance that allows a certain rusticity, warmth and material nakedness, in contrast to the minimalist sobriety and synthetic perfection of the machine-made. We believe that there is much to explore in the fusion of old and new and that this project is a beginning for us...

The original house belonging to the beginning of the century, had been already renovated before, having the particularity of a very extensive service ground floor, and an upper level of housing very high, enough for making seven units on the lot.

In first instance, the parking fulfills a specific function: to host as many vehicles as possible in the least number of meters squared, in the fastest and most efficient way possible. Nevertheless, this project seeks to propose a new parking experience by exceeding the traditional program requirements. The architecture is then the result of an equanimous design process that ponders on the optimization of resources in search for more generous spaces than usual.
