WONDERFULMARBLE - Jan Knikker MVRDV in lecture

In the setting of the Panoramic Room of the Livorno Aquarium and in live streaming, MGI promotes a work shop dedicated to Architects aimed at deepening the characteristics and methods of use of MARBLE in Architecture. After the institutional greetings of Marco Niccolini, President of the PPC Architects Order of Livorno, Paolo Agonigi, CEO of the MGI Group and Daniele Menichini, President of In / Arch Toscana, Architect Giovanni Giorgi will give a lecture on the most suitable approach to design and use marble at its best, between classic and contemporary. An in-depth study on the concept of environmental sustainability will be handled by Jan Knikker, since 2008 in MVRDV, where as a Partner, he directs the development and public relations activities, forming a customer-oriented, fast and strategic studio that includes a strong team. Founded in Rotterdam, the studio has been active since 1993 at an international level in every architectural and urban planning sector, with a mission oriented towards participatory planning, which involves clients, stakeholders and professionals who interact from the earliest stages of the creative process.
The goal is a choral reflection on the use of marble in design, as well as understanding how innovative ways can be used to contribute to widespread application, also in relation to a sustainable use of natural resources. The meaning of the word "marble" which derives from the Greek marmaros and literally means "shining stone" already contains in a nutshell the great potential of this material used since ancient times.

ScaLIurbani Mediterranean Connections

Following the great success of the first three editions held from 2019 to 2021, the idea of a fourth ScaLIurbani 2022 event was launched to confirm the annual frequency of this important cultural event. The theme chosen for next year is Mediterranean Connections or the Connections created by the Mediterranean and, with them, ties, relationships, Architectures and stories related to it; a theme that has as its objective the involvement of the countries bordering our sea through their projects and achievements as well as with the free interpretation of the relationship between the sea and its borders; the relationship between Architecture, City, Territory and Culture of the various countries, therefore, becomes a trait d’union between the various places in the Mediterranean basin.
Mediterranean as a bridge between East and West, between South and North; a basin that is not only a geographical place but also a changing collective imagination that contributes to influencing the perception of space in the various countries bordering it. Architecture becomes that element and that bond that can also be shared through the diversity of places in the Mediterranean which are sometimes represented as similar or close, while others, on the other hand, as aliens and strangers due to social, cultural and economic differences.
The event, of international scope, aims to be (as in previous editions) an opportunity to return to express, through Architecture, the strong desire for the quality of the space in which we live, a wealth to be protected, to be renewed and create.
