The initial concept is derived from the existing park like scenery. Like scattered stones, the non- orthogonal buildings gather around a central place. The group of buildings consists of a single family house, double single family houses and multi-family houses which hardly differ from the architectural language in size and proportions. The irregular shaped buildings provide a huge variation of visual angels and perspectives.

In 2015 the clients decided to build an underground extension and undertake a rearrangement of the house, whereby the building was divided into two independent apartments. The clients’ main apartment covered the ground and the first floor orientated both towards the garden encompassed by the L-shaped building and the west-facing outdoor area adjoining the woods and supplemented with raised plant beds.

Urban Planning The urban-planning situation was so chosen that a generous private open space was defined by the formation of a back to the building facing the light incline of the slope and the neighbouring house to the East. The positioning of the volumes of the residential buildings above ground level is based on an analysis of the most optimal visual axes and vantage points, taking account of the concept-specific double-sided orientation of the houses.

Building a house is a kind of apprentice piece for every architect. Yet the deeper you become involved in this type of commission, the more you realise that it is not as simple as it might seem. Every building is a challenge, no matter how many times you may have done something similar before. With this building there was much that was different: the plot already had a house on it, but the development density was less than that which is now permitted. The clients were clear about what they wanted in terms of space, and also were open to suggestions that could influence their lifestyle.
